Was Jesus was in Perea across the Jordan River from Judea when He heard that Lazarus was sick?

Yes, according to the Gospel of John (John 11:1-3), Jesus was in Perea, the region across the Jordan River from Judea, when He received the news about Lazarus's illness. This location is significant because it sets the stage for the subsequent events leading to Lazarus's resurrection. Jesus's presence in Perea highlights the tension and danger He faced in Judea, where religious leaders were plotting against Him.

What are the similarities between the Old Testament and the New Testament?

A key similarity between the Old and New Testaments is that both are dedicated to the worship of the same God. Beginning with the Book of Hebrews, arguably the earliest book in the New Testament, we find Jesus described as the high priest in heaven, a parallel to the Old Testament high priests on earth.

The authors of the four New Testament gospels made frequent allusions to the Old Testament, using many passages from it to foreshadow the life of Jesus. The gospels also contain many passages taken more or less verbatim from the Old Testament, demonstrating that the use of the Old Testament elsewhere was not accidental. For example, in Mark's Gospel, Christ's very last words on the cross were, "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" - taken by the author direct from Psalm 22:1. Even Paul sometimes used short passages from the Old Testament in his epistles.

The genre of the Book of Revelation is apocalypse, parallelling some late Old Testament books such asEzekiel and Daniel.

How did Paul's first and second missionary journeys differ?

Most Bible's have a section in the back which contains these on a map of the regions to which he traveled. They may either be illustrated separately or, if they are put on the same map, it is easy to compare them.

It may also be worth noting that Paul made a number of journeys which were not missionary journeys, including a visit to Arabia after he was converted. These journeys will not be included on such maps.

A Bible Atlas will also have details of the missionary journeys of Paul, often in better detail.

What three ways is Luke's first letter connected with his second?

Luke's first letter, known as the Gospel of Luke, and his second letter, known as the Acts of the Apostles, are connected in several ways. First, they are both authored by Luke, a physician and companion of the apostle Paul. Second, both books are part of the New Testament and provide a comprehensive account of the life of Jesus and the early Christian church. Third, the Gospel of Luke focuses on the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus, while Acts of the Apostles continues the narrative by detailing the spread of Christianity after Jesus' ascension.

Is the Bible the word of truth?

For Bible literalists, the Bible is entirely true and inerrant.

However, even many Christians recognise that a book with so many contradictions and historical erros can not be regarded as literally the word of truth. They regard it as inspired, rather than infallible.

Does the bible actually say when Jesus birthday is?

No where in the Bible is the Birth Day of Christ revealed.

God knew that men would start worshiping the day instead of the Man, just as we see today. People become 'Christians' on the 25 of December, thinking they can pretend God.

The origin of this date traces back to the Church of Roman. Most of the Greek gods' birthdays are on the 25 December.

Same with the day of worship, Sunday. No where in the Bible does it say that the day of worship has been moved from Saturday (Sabbath) to Sunday (Day of the sun).

Correction of the above (which is factually incorrect)

The Bible does, in fact, give us man clues as to the time of Christ's birth; Luke places it firmly in history by using other date markers, and by examining details of the shepherds, and Christ's life, one can get some idea of when he was born. (see below).

The date Dec 25 probably comes from the pagan Roman new year festivals as the birth of Christ took precedence after pagan celebrations were Christianised at the adoption of Christianity by the Roman Empire.

Also, there is no real evidence that any Greek god also had a 'birthday' on Dec 25th.

As for the day of worship, this has nothing to do with the 'sun' (for example, in French, Sunday is 'Dimanche' - again nothing to do with the sun) as stated above. Sunday is the day of worship because it is the first day of the week. This was traditionally the day of worship for Christians because they commemorate the resurrection of Jesus on the first day of the week (Mark 16:2). The practice of worhipping on the first day of the week dated from the early church who met on this day to break bread together (ie have Holy Communion). This is recorded in Acts 20:7 among other places in the Bible.

Additional Information:

As stated above, the Bible never mentions the celebration of Jesus' birth.

*December in Israel is the rainy season, and shepherds, though sometimes grazing their sheep close to home, would NOT have been 'living out' in the fields at night during that time of year(Luke 2:8) It also is not reasonable to think that Caesar would ask people to travel long distances to be registered during the cold rainy weather (Luke 2:1-5).

*Also, Jesus started his ministry when he was 30 years old(Luke 3:23)

He died on March 31, 33 (Nisan 14 of the Jewish calendar).

His ministry lasted '3 and a half years', so he would have been about '33 and a half' years old when he died, causing many to feel that he was probably born around early October.

*In addition, John the Baptizer, who was six months older than Jesus(Luke 1:26-38) was born sometime in late March, if we look at the time period when his father was a priest and received the message from God about conceiving his son John (1 Chronicles 24:7-10 compare: Luke 1:5, 8-25) The eighth division of priests (Abijah) would take place in the fourth Jewish month, or late June on our calendar, so John would be conceived in late June, and born in late March. Six months later, Jesus was born...Late September/early October.

History points out that December 25th was chosen by the Church of Rome in the 4th century, to be the official date of Jesus' birth, because this date was already well known in pagan Rome as having been dedicated to the Sun god, and it was still well known, even then. The ancient Romans celebrated the rise of the sun in the winter sky by feasting, partying, and the exchanging of gifts.

Why does man suffer according to the Book of Job?

AnswerAccording to the Book of Job, man suffers because God wills it.

In this story, God tells Satan to harm any of Job's family and rob him of his possessions, simply to prove whether Job would curse God for his part in these disasters. When this plot failed, God told Satan to try even harder, even to cause personal harm to Job, as long as he did not kill him.

Why was John reluctant to baptize Jesus?

It is only in Matthew's Gospel that John is reluctant to baptise Jesus, saying to him (KJV), "I have need to be baptised of thee, and comest thou to me?"

John's Gospel provides quite the opposite account, with John welcoming Jesus and saying that he had known Jesus would be coming to be baptised (John 1:33), "And I knew him not:but that he sent me to baptise with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Spirit."
