How can a top fuel dragster burn so much fuel?

Top fuel dragsters have dual fuel pumps capable of pumping 77 gallons per minute. They use 22.75 gallons for warm-up, burn out, stagging and quarter mile run.

They can burn this much best the fuel Nitro methane burns at a air/ratio of 1.7:1 air fuel ratio, and most run the engine richer (1.1-1.4:1) and use the extra fuel to help cool the motor. So they run around 1.1 lbs of air to 1 lb of fuel, in an 8500rpm, 500cuin. engine running 45lbs of boost

Is it appropriate for a 7 year old to watch Roupoule's drag race?

Why do you see triangles painted on NHRA tires?

Why are dragsters so long?

Dragsters are long in order to maximize stability and reduce aerodynamic drag. The length helps distribute weight evenly along the vehicle, improving traction and preventing wheelies during acceleration. Additionally, a longer body allows for a more gradual increase in speed, reducing the likelihood of losing control at high velocities.

Who invented the top fuel racing engine?

The modern T/F engine is a very loose interpretation of a Chrysler engine that came out in 1951. The legendary Hemi. The first recognized "racing" derivation was the Donovan 417 of the later 60s. It was siimply an aluminum casting of a Chrysler block.

Over the next 40+ years they evolved into the modern marvels of today. Most are Mondello blocks.

The first T/F National race was won by a flat head Ford driven by Calvin Rice in

Great Bend, Kansas in 1955. He ran a sub ten second run. They tried all types, Olds, Pontiacs, Small & Big Block Chevys, but finally settled on the hemi. Its the most detonation resistant combustion chamber design. A surface area to volume thing.
