Shooting modes include Single frame shooting, playback mode, PC mode, continuous shooting and self-time mode.

I would at least try the lense on a few pictures and see what the quality is. Depending on the price of a new one, you could even remove the front lense and clean it, or have it done by a professional.

Nikon D70 does not offer a liveview mode.

I have one on my .44 mag and so far it works fine. A .44 mag rifle doesn't recoil as much as a 30-06 though. Also there's the issue of parralax. The Nikon is set for 50 yards where the '06 really needs a scope set for at least 100-200 yards to take full advantage of it's capabilities. If all your shots are 50 yards or less try it. It's a 50/50 proposition

I couldn't find it in the manual, but others have said "set the date and time". I can't check if this works at the moment (my wife has my camera in Prague, and I'm not there), but it seems like an intuitive meaning for the icon. Would be nice to have it in the docu, so RTFM would actually lead to an answer.

On my nikon d40 it lasts for a long time, when you first got it you should have killed the battery all the way then charged it to the max without unplugging and then your battery should be good.

Like all medium format cameras, the mirror on the mamiya 645 is pretty large and heavy. the mirror lockup lever takes it out of the equation once you've composed and focused your image, so that the vibration its action causes doesn't blur the final shot. it's pretty much essential if you're taking exposures longer than 1/60.
