Notorious Murderers and Serial Killers

Aileen Carol Wuornos's entire childhood was a nightmare. Abandoned by their mother at a very young age, 'Lee' and her older brother Keith were raised by their maternal grandparents as their own. Her grandfather had a volitale temper made worse by his almost constant consumption of alcohol. Her grandmother died relatively young due to alcoholism.

Almost before she reached a double-digit age Aileen was experimenting with sex and later prostitution. This behaviour does substantiate the rumor that Lee's grandfather sexually abused her. It is a fact that Lee and older brother Keith had sex occasionally. Pregnant at 14, she hid the pregnancy until it was so obvious she finally broke down and told her sister (actually her aunt) and was eventually sent to a home for unwed mothers.

It is safe to say that Aileen was abused by many, loved by few. She was a ticking time bomb, and blew irradically with little or no provocation. When she returned home after adopting her baby out, she gave up all pretense of childhood. She spent more and more time away from the grandparents house until she just never returned. Camping in empty cars, the woods, or with anyone who may lend a sofa, she finally moved south to Florida, unable to spend another Michigan winter without a permanent home. Although adolescence is no picnic for most of us, it was horrendous for Wuornos.

All serial killers die. Just like everybody else on Earth, they are subject to the Grim Reaper also. There are some killers though that long after their death they still induce nightmares in the minds of millions of people. Jack The Ripper is a perfect example. One hundred twenty years after his crimes he is still synonymous with evil. The names Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer are only slightly less menacing than the Ripper. Although Charles Manson is still alive he belongs to this elete group of killers. This, no doubt, is exactly what they want. Even in death these evil men want to exert power over the masses. So although we cannot wipe them from history we can deprive them of any power. Remember their victims instead and put these killers into a very small part of the collective consciousness.

Although not as plentiful as male serial killers, history shows that women are not immune to killing in numbers. The biggest difference in men and women serial killers is the how and why of their crimes.

Male serial killers are a whole different animal and are driven by completely different forces. For men its about control, sex, control. They are usually driven by strong violent fantasies. And they are usually strangers or near strangers to the victims.

Women serial killers are most likely to kill someone they know. Nurses kill their patients for varying reasons. They kill relatives for monetary gain. This is not the complete list but it gives a good idea of how a woman kills. They are big on poison, too.

Then there are the women, rare though they are, that kill their children. Not Andrea Yates, the Texas housewife that drowned her 5 small children in their bathtub. The women that suffer from Muchausen's by Proxy. These women kill their own children for the attention it brings them. Although Aileen Wuornos has been touted as the first female serial killer, she was far from it. What made Wuornos non-typical was she killed men she did not know. But it was about monetary gain. So except for the stranger/victims she was more typical than people realize. They had what she wanted/needed so she took it. (money, car)

These are just examples, and of course there are always exceptions to the rules but this gives a good idea of women killers.

serial killers are hard to catch because most likely their victim is not related or known before. There are no skills that requires perfecting.

He was known as the Candy Man. He killed 27 boys and his method was organized. The only thing that made his killing stop was that he was shot by his accomplish. He was only 33 years old.

He had a good place to get rid of the bodies. Hi's killings could have gone for decades.

There have been several serial killers that have targeted couples. The Zodiac from northern California killed couples, although not exclusively. Paul Stine, a San Francisco cab driver was shot in the head by Zodiac. It is also likely that Zodiac killed in southern California also. Several couples and lone women were the killer's choice.

New York City was the hunting grounds of Son of Sam killer David Berkowitz. From the summer of 1976 to summer 1977 Son of Sam killed six victims, wounded seven. The victims, mostly male/female couples parked in cars.

I believe Dr. Stone gave Bianchi the scales highest and most depraved rating of 22. Level 22 is reserved for the worst of 'humanity' such as Bianchi. Sexual sadists fall into this category which is basically what Bianchi is.

John Wayne Gacy dressed up as a clown called pogo.....................Gacy was a Serial Killer and a clown. He did both activities, but not at the same time. When he killed he was just normal looking. He used to entertain children as a clown, but there was no connection between the clown and the killer.

With so many serial killers not identified, there can not be statistics showing the population of the world's serial killer. 76% of the world's serial killers are in America is a statistic based ongoing studies. The United States only has about seven percent of the world's population, but has been home to over 76% of its serial killers.

His targets generally included university professors and students, airlines, and computer retailers. Two victims worked for advertising and lobbying firms connected to large business concerns.

As far as I can tell, not yet. But new terms and conditions are discovered and diagnosed all the time. And with the crime of serial murder being covered in the media it is possible that a problem like this could exist.

He is. Williams received life sentences with no parole instead of the death penalty.

William Hare and his common-law wife Margaret Laird ran a lodging house in Edinburgh, Scotland

These brutal murders in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine in June and July 2007 were real and brutal so were the killers themselves. They were called The Dnepropetrovsk Maniacs. They also video taped the murders.

Their names are Viktor Sayenko and Igor Suprunyuck. They were 19 years old when the murders took place.

In Westchester county, New York, in the mid 1970's an unidentified shooter terrorized several communities by peeping in windows and firing his victims with inch long steel darts into their heads, necks and throats. The case was never solved and remains open and very cold.

Charles Raymond Starkweather was an American spree killer who murdered eleven people in Nebraska and Wyoming during a two-month road trip with his teenage girlfriend Caril Ann Fugate. Although he had murdered a few weeks before, Charlie Starkweather, a diminutive 19-year-old garbage truck driver from Lincoln, Nebraska, didn't begin killing in earnest until January 21, 1958. This was the day when he visited the home of his girlfriend, Caril Fugate, aged 14. While awaiting her return, Starkweather got into an argument with Fugate's mother. When she tried to slap him, he grabbed a rifle and shot her. Seconds later, Fugate's stepfather was similarly dispatched. Minutes later Fugate arrived home, at which point Starkweather stabbed her 2-year-old half-sister to death. Then, after pinning up a notice in the window that read "Every Body is Sick with the Flu," the couple hunkered down for the next six days, watching television, having sex, gorging themselves on fast food. In that time various people visited the house and met the two teenagers. No one noticed anything out of the ordinary.One week later, alerted by an anxious relative, police officers called at the house and uncovered the massacre. But there was no sign of the wanted couple.

Another week passed before they were captured. In that time they had gone on a killing binge across Nebraska, littering the highway with bodies, until their final tally reached 11 victims. When eventually arrested, Starkweather mugged for the cameras like some psychotic James Dean, cigarette drooping from his mouth-America's first rock 'n' roll killer had just been born. By this time Fugate had already washed her hands of him.

They were tried separately, Starkweather first. He swaggered into court on May 5, 1958, before Judge Harry Spencer, to face a single count of murder, that of Robert Jensen. The facts were not in dispute, and neither was Starkweather's culpability; at issue was his mental state.

Earlier Starkweather had pointedly refused to cooperate with attempts to save his life through a plea of insanity, sneering, "Nobody remembers a crazy man." Now, when his chief counsel, T. Clement Gaughan, told the jury that Starkweather's IQ was "only a point or two above an idiot," the defendant's knuckles whitened as he gripped the desk in rage. Starkweather, it seemed, would rather die in the electric chair than be classified as mentally subnormal. His first kill was a gas station attendant who had humiliated Charlie the day before by not allowing Starkweather to buy a stuffed animal for Caril on credit. He robbed the man and then took him out and shot him. The robbery murder was big news at the time. Because the attendant had not known the safe combination, Charlie settled for $100, mostly in coins, from the cash drawer.On the run now, the pair sought shelter from 72 year old August Meyer, an old family friend. Whom they shot in the head.The hitched a ride with teens Robert Jensen and Carole King. He forced Jensen to drive back towards Meyer's farm to an abandoned storm cellar. There, he put six bullets into Jensen's head. Jensen's girlfriend Carol King was shot once in the head. Her body was left half-naked with her jeans and panties down around her ankles.Where they come across poor Merle Collison, a travelling Montana shoe salesman, who was sleeping in his Buick, parked along the highway. Shot him in the head, neck, arm and leg.

John Brown and several of his sons went to Kansas after the Kansas Nebraska Act to fight settlers there who were pro-slavery. Brown and his sons, and there is no doubt about this, massacred five pro-slavery men in front of their families. Brown somehow escaped capture and prosecution for these crimes. His next move, financed by wealth New England abolitionists was the aborted slave revolt near Harper's Ferry Virginia. No slaves joined the revolt and Brown was executed in December of 1859. By raiding the Federal arsenal at Harper's Ferry and attempting to incite a revolution was treason. Virginia took him into custody and tried him for treason against Virginia, however, it was a Federal crime and he should have been tried in a Federal court.

Raymond Martinez Fernandez born in Hawaii to Spanish parents, and Martha Jule Beck (Seabrook) were serial killers in post-WWII America. At the time of their arrest on February 28, 1949, Fernandez was 34, Beck 29. This team was most commonly refered to as the 'Lonely Hearts Killers' and were responsible for at least 19 murders. They traveled the country finding women through lonely hearts ads and swindled them out of their money and sometimes murdered them. They were held for trial in the Bronx Criminal Court in New York and found guilty and sentenced to the electric chair. And in 1951 at Sing Sing Prison in New York they paid their debt to society. Fernandez had to be carried to the chair but Beck was the picture of calm mouthing the words 'so long' before the hood was placed over her head.

Unless you are in a region/country where killing is legal, it is not legal. Just by saying someone is a rebel does not make murdering okay. Firstly, a rebel for what? What is there to rebel against? A secondly, no one would believe you just because you said that you killed someone who was a "rebel". Unless you are the president, you're out of luck on that excuse. Now I would like to ask you a question? Why would you even need to post this question on WikiAnswers to get an answer. Use common sense, because this is not a legal or law issue, it's common sense.
