What is it like to work on an oil rig?
Depending on the position you have it could be anything from very demanding to relaxed, but usually always busy. Time spent on a rig can be anything from 3 months on/one month off, one month on/one month off, or anything somewhat similar depending on your job and company you work for. There are people from various companies and in different jobs on board a rig. One gets transferred to a rig by either boat or helicopter.
Safety rules are very strict and have to be followed to the tee for everyone's safety benefit!! At times you can find yourself working in the elements: cold, heat, rain, snow, strong winds. It is not a rare event to abandon a rig ahead of a severe storm where personnel will be taken back onshore.
There are usually no shops but great foods are prepared 4 times per day. Beverages and snacks can be found any time in the galley. There is usually one smoking room, a gym, Satellite TV, DVDs and games on board. Rooms are usually shared by anything from 2 to 6 people. The climate in the accommodation building is regulated and is quite welcoming. Rigs are kept very clean not only for our comfort but also for safety reasons. You will always make some friends on a rig. Telephones are always available to call home. On some rigs cameras and internet is not allowed. Lighters are banned and your medication controlled. You may take your own laptop for your entertainment.
Medical assistance is always available for anything from a headache to serious injuries where helicopter evacuations are in place. In the rare event of a serious rig incident, evacuation drills are in place and often drilled.
All-in-all, its a good place to meet some great people from different nationalities and also to gain loads of knowledge and experience which could be valuable to your future employment.
What is offshore oil potential?
I'm not sure if you are asking what "offshore oil potential" means or what the "offshore oil potential" actually is in economic projection. But I will answer it both ways.
"Offshore oil potential" basically means the possible or projected quantity of crude oil located beneath the ocean floor that will be produced by a defined entity in a defined region.
Offshore crude oil output accounts for almost one-third of the world's oil production. At this stage, offshore is the only growing segment of the oil industry. It is without doubt the new oil and gas frontier as onshore production has only decreased in the last 20 years. What the exact potential is, I wish I knew the answer..
Who was the inventor of the oil rig?
Rigs are an amalgamation of technologies required to extract hydrocarbons from the Earth. Oil was first "drilled" for in China, some 1700 to 1900 years ago.
What treatments are used to increase flow rates in oil wells?
Additional treatment to increase fluid flow rates may be needed to make existing and producing wells commercially viable. These treatments include hydraulic fracturing, acidizing the reservoir, and explosives.
Why might sighting a line of offshore breakers cause sailors to turn their boats around?
As water becomes shallower, the wave height increases and the waves may break. Breaking waves could signal a submerged sandbar or reef and a ship could run aground.
What is an offshore platform and how is it different an onshore drilling rig?
An offshore platform is a structure that is installed over as group of wells that was drilled by an offshore drilling rig. The function of the platform is to produce the oil from these wells. A platform can be mounted to the seabed or could be a floating type platform. Offshore drilling rigs are for drilling the wells and are mobile and moved from area to area.
Onshore drilling rigs are mobile units too and are moved from pad to pad for drilling and exploration. After a well is drilled onshore, a wellhead is installed on the well. There is no need for a platform as this only economically viable in offshore applications.
There have been cases where an offshore well was drilled from land into the sea, but operated from land. This can only be possible if the oil formation is not too far offshore.
How much money do you get paid on the oil rig?
34 bucks an hour and work 12 hour shifts. Equals about $5,000 every 2 weeks.
a driller on an semi-submersible deepwater drilling rig makes over 140k a year. pay also depends on rig type and rig location
What is onshore and offshore petroleum exploration?
Petroleum exploration is where a rig or ship is used to drill into the earth or seabed to locate oil reserves.
For offshore exploration a drill ship, jack-up drilling rig or floating drilling rig can be used. For onshore applications mobile drilling rig is used.
Where does the crude oil go after it has been through the pipes from the offshore oil rig?
It can go via pipeline to an onshore facility for refining or storage, it can go to and FPSO (A floating production, storage and offloading vessel anchored in the vicinity of the oil rigs) where it could be pumped into oil tanker ships, or to a man made island where it is stored and pumped into oil tanker ships.
The oil eventually ends up in refineries where fuels, lubricants, plastics, chemical, rubber, and other bi-products are then manufactured.
because people were not paying attention and there was a gas leak and it ignited
How do employees on offshore oil rigs send email?
Satellite communications. Installation operators will pay a large fee for a set bandwidth to be shared between the crew for email, internet access, telephone and sometimes television, but the latter can be direct from a satellite television provider.
How much money does a derikrman make oil rigs?
Oil rig mechanic salary will be based on location of the rig. Typically oil rig mechanics make around $50,000 a year but can be less or more dependent upon location and company.
What is the difference between and oil rig and an oil platform?
An oil rig is an oil platform or oil production platform.
A drilling is different though.
What is an unskilled oil rig worker called?
All rig workers are skilled to some level.
Green Hands, or Green Horns are trainees.
Roustabouts, or Deck Hands/Ops, are generally the starting point in a career.
Rough term for oil workers is Rig Pigs.
How do you rig a crappie nibble on your hook?
I have found the best way is a size 12 or even 14 hook with a 1/16 pinch wait. Simply tie your hook on 4 to 6 pound test string. The distance from for middle finger to your thumb from the hook should be where the pinch weight should be. If your a bobber person, then do the same thing from the weight and your bobber should be there. That's it. Or u can use jig head with a tube lure and put the crappie nibble on the tip of the hook. You could catch bluegill and maybe even bass too.
Was the gulf oil rig bombed on purpose?
It is likely a terrorist attack as is the china pipeline now spewing massive amounts of oil in China. Try to find ANY photos on google and yahoo and you will see our corporations and government have done a THOROUGH job of censoring EVERYTHING related to terrorist attack on oil rig, on pipeline and all photos of said spills. Why the huge cover up? Because we are at war. USA can't march through country after country without repercussions. What better a way to bring a country to its knees? Attack its infrastructure. This cap is a joke. The pressure in this field is uncontrollable. The Gulf will soon be awash in the largest oil blow out the world will ever see. Add to that the 27,000 abandoned wells in the gulf all attached to the same oil source and you can see why someone would target something a mile deep with a sub and blow it up. If we lose the gulf, we loose our major food source, shipping port, revenue source its a brilliant attack on a military scale but will cripple humanity. Such is what we get for electing war mongering and oil loving people into our world governments. The sad thing about all this is humanity has the means to live without oil. Using soybean and hemp, wind, solar, geothermal, wave harnessing, tidal harnessing theres enough free energy in this world so that we never need to drill again.
Rig count is the record of all active rig exploring for or drilling of petroleum or natural gas around the world. it is publish on weekly or monthly basis.
What is being done to fix the Oil Rig in the Gulf of Mexico?
The drilling rig is a semi-submersible platform (not anchored to the sea floor). It has been destroyed by fire and is lying in 5,000 feet of water at the ocean's bottom. As it plunged into the ocean, it drifted and is a good distance (I believe around 1,400 ft) from subsea wellhead. The drilling platform will never be repaired.
