Premium (93 Octane) will allow a 2001 Aurora V8 to run at maximum power. Lower octane fuels will produce less power because the PCM will retard the spark to prevent knock, and that will lead to a noticeable drop in power....up to 10% less.
Bad powertrain mount or worn CV joint or high idle speed or torque converter problem.
let the proffessionals do that . those bolts are fragile. if you break the heads on those bolts your screwed. it will cost you more. they are torqued on there for a reason.
About 600.00 For starter replacement. you are better off doing it yourself.
Its really not that hard. Its under the thermoplastic intake on top of your motor.there is about 10 #10 mm bolts you take off.disconnect your fuel lines. disconnect your fuel injecter line at the main hook up so you don't have to disconnect them separate.any vacuum lines mark which ones go to where( i made a drawing and numbered them so i wouldn't forget) remove 10 mm bolts and pick up intake and turn it out of you way(you don't have to disconnect the throttle or shift cables)disconnect your main positive cable first before doing anything!its by the front pass side of motor.your starter is is 2 10mm bolts. check your intake gaskets if they arent crushed or messed up you can reuse them
My 1997 OLDSMOBILE AURORA only runs hot when the outside temperature is 84 degrees and above. I drive 105 miles one to work and in the mornings when the outside temperature is 76 degrees and below my engine runs normal from 160 to 200 degrees. When I leave work in the afternoon with the outside temperature 85 degrees and above get about 25 miles down the Hwy and the engine runs hot and boil all the water out of the reservoir. I replaced the radiator, water pump, thermostat, upper and lower radiator hoses, reservoir bottle cap and water pump pulley belt. I flush the system and when the outside temperature is 85 degrees and above te engine still runs hot. Can anyone help me.
Answer:
Most of the time, in Aurora cars, the overheating is caused by imperfect firing/spark, bad fuel mixture and exhaust blockage. To cure all for good :
1. change your catalytic converter every 70k miles, and if you have over 100k miles and still using the original converter that's your overheat problem.
2. Change your spark-plugs with NGK-Irridium plus and also get Borg-Warner wireset online.
3. Replace any of your 4 coils in the coilpack behind the engine that looks older. Changing all 4 gives long life to your car.
I did all 3 above, afterwards my car ran better than new, with more smooth power, cool and gave 24-25mpg (freeway) 21mpg(city) compared to 15-17mpg before.
Just to give you an idea of the cost:
#1 costs $160-$180
#2 costs $50 for plugs and about $112 for BWD (Borg Warner) wires
#3 about $50 per coil, $200 for set of 4(lasts for 70,000 miles)
If you ask me the cost is worth it because Auroras last for 250,000 miles under proper care. Make sure you only use Full-Synthetic oil and supreme unleaded fuel.
Good Luck
1) Unscrew the centre console. The 2 screws for this are in that little storage box thing behind the handbrake but you will need to remove thal little piece of carpet at the bottom of the box to get to them.
2) Remove the plastic panel around the gear shifter. In an auto you do this by taking out the ash tray (easy). Then you can just pull the plastic panel off but it requires a bit of force.. This will reveal three screws which you can now take off.
3) Open the glove box on the passenger side and the panel under the steering wheel in the drivers side (the one with all the fuses in it). This will reveal three screws on each side of the console which you can now undo.
4) Remove the plastic bit surrounding the stereo. This is not screwed in but it needs a bit of force to remove.
5) Take out heater controls. There is one black screw holding this in so undo that. The dial thing which controls the temperature has a long metal rod which you have to undo. At the end of it. The end of it is right under the dash in drivers side and you can unclip it but its fidely and hard to reach. with the heater noe out you will see a few more screws so undo them all.
6) You can now take off the rest of the console which is in the way of the stereo. Unscrew the bracket holding the stereo in and take it out
Behind the front right bumper. It is accessible by removing the plastic access in the frot right wheel well.
I done done this repair on 3 Auroras so far. Every one had a bad or sticking EVAP solenoid. The EVAP solenoid is about $20.00 and is mounted on the inside of the frame by the driver's side rear wheel. I little tricky to get out, but not too bad. ACDelco #2141363
There are multiple locations for which to trace an oil leak. These are the filter mount, cooler hoses, the cooler itself, oil pan and gasket, valve covers and main seal.
Your battery sounds like it is dead. Get it charged or replace it with a new one. Then try to find what drained it so this will not repeat.
This is a wonderful feature of luxury cars of the day that is now becoming more popular on many makes. It's a delay feature for the cars electronics that allow you to shut the engine off but still be able to listen to the radio, close the power windows and sunroof, whatever. The power stays on for ten minutes or until you open a door. Nothing to worry about, enjoy.
Technician A is correct. A twelve point wrench is used to loosen bolts that are very tight.
You would use 10W-40 Not just any 10W-40 will do it must meet the following Performance specifications:
API SG, SL/CF; JASO MA/MA-2; API GL-1
Had that problem when still under warranty on my 02 when all lights would momentarily flicker, including the head lights, and the dealer replaced my alternator. There was a service bulletin put out on that problem. Also just recently, my lights would dim and I found a broken ground wire on the left front side on my engine block after checking all ground connections. Good luck.
A wiring issue can cause a 2001 Aurora driver's heated seat light come on then a click sound as it turns back off about a second later. It could also indicate the temperature sensor is failing.
Fuses. If fuses OK, read PCM datastream.
There are two speed sensors for this car. One is located in the transmission an the transmission needs removed to replace it. An the other sensor is located right above the passenger side trans axle "CV Shaft". This one tells the car when to shift an also tell the car's speedometer what to read. if this one is bad it will cause the car to shift hard an sometimes not at all. it will act like its stuck in first gear an not want to shift into second or over drive.
Well since I put the question out there, Inow have the answer: It was the blower motor module that needed to be replaced. It was burned out. It cause me 251.00 for part and labor.
