Chlorofluorocarbon gases (CFCs) eat the ozone layer alive where we use it everyday for industrial processes although the ozone layer can repair Itself.

The number one reason ozone thins in our atmosphere is due to a lack of sunlight. Without this energy, ozone naturally will decay into oxygen molecules. This is why the hole in the ozone layer only appears over the poles and then only at the end of the winter months at each pole. Once the sun returns, these holes quickly disappear.

The ozone layer is in fact our world's safety net against radiation. We are destroying it daily with our many mistakes involving chemicals and pollution. It has holes in it that are allowing radiation to penetrate our precious earth. Without the ozone layer and what it does, we would not have been able to be born.

If all the ozone was removed, there will be no life. The UV will end all living organisms.

Yes they can, I was bitten in Costa Rica but I believe its intention was to keep from falling when it was hanging from My arm. I was removing it from a road. Its best to pick them up from behind with on hand under each of his arms. The bite bled pretty good. And consisted of two puncture wounds about an inch apart. It really did not hurt to bad for long just when it latched a hold of me. I cleaned it thoroughly with soap and water and applied antibiotic ointment. So far I have not had a desire to clime trees and eat leaves. But My girlfriend says I am moving slower.

To reduce CFC's stop using some products. These are deodorants, spray cans, aerosols etc.

Various measures are being taken now. The first measure was to try reduce the use of CFC's.

Scientists have performed experiments under conditions that they believe replicate the conditions in the upper atmosphere where the presence of chlorine and bromine radicals (created when solar radiation breaks them free from the molecules they were once part of) and ice crystals catalyzes a more rapid decomposition of ozone (O3) back to simple oxygen molecules (O2). In all honesty, scientists don't KNOW that Cl and Br actually do that in the upper atmosphere, but the evidence is very strong based on existing research. Theoretically, the halogenated hydrocarbons that contain these atoms are very stable and can persist long enough remain intact for the years it may take them to diffuse into the upper atmosphere and be decomposed as theorized in the experiments.
