Do PayPal do credit cards?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No, a PayPal account is not a credit card. You can register your own credit card details with PayPal and they act as an "intermediary", taking money from your card to pay sellers for your online purchases. PayPal do offer their own credit card now as well, but that is an entirely separate issue from a PayPal account.

How does a PayPal work?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

PayPal makes money in the same way credit card companies do. The seller pays a percentage (or at some times a fixed "fee" but usually a percentage) to PayPal based on how much money changes hands. It depends on the agreement. It would be interesting to know how much money changes hands "under the table" between, say, eBay and PayPal. It would also be interesting to know the relationship they have, and its history.

When you use a credit card or PayPal, you do so purchasing something. It costs you "X" dollars. The seller who accepts your credit card or PayPal payment does not get "X" dollars. That seller has an amount deducted from what the buyer gave for the goods or services. The seller who uses the credit card service or PayPal service pays for that service in that way. It's all electronic. An almost effortless "skimming" of the sellers' profits. A percent (even a small one) or two of millions of dollars per day adds up. And in the case of credit cards that don't have current balances near zero, the interest charges to the card holder make those of a loan shark pale. Oh, and those credit card charges are legal. (Other opinions my differ from this one.) As a buyer or seller, be smart. Protect yourself and make good choices.

How much does it cost to receive money through PayPal?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Paypal charges a fixed amount per transaction. They charge a .30 charge per transaction, and then 2.9% of the cost of the transaction. The nice thing is there is no set up fee, and if you did want to use them, there is no cancellation fee, so nothing to worry about!

What is a billing address?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A billing address is the address where you are receiving the statements for your credit card. For your order to be approved when shopping online the billing address has to match this address since it is the registered address on the card.

In the USA, many online merchants require a US billing address. They do this to protect themselves against credit card fraud. The AVS (address verification software) credit card processors use helps them detect when credit card data is submitted incorrectly.

Not having a US billing address can be prevent you from placing orders on US websites from outside America. US Unlocked is a company that has solved this issue, by providing a US billing address to international online shoppers.

Can a savings account be used with PayPal?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Sometimes is the answer. I had a savings account verified and part of that process is PayPal paying cash into the savings account. However, when I tried to pay money from PayPal to my account the transaction was reversed, which cost me 50 pence. I then added another savings account (I did not want to give access to my current account) and that one worked fine. The accounts are identical (only the account number differed) and I got no explanation and complaining was very, very, infuriating. I did contact the ombudsman and got my 50 pence back but no explanation.

So it is a random risk and PayPal say that they don't recommend using Savings Accounts. The Ombudsman don't seem worried at all as it is such a small charge but I wonder how many times PayPal take 50 pence as their systems have some random issue with some accounts.

Try it if you don't mind losing 50p.

There are two main ways to withdraw money from PayPal. If you have a business or a premium account you can request a debit card from PayPal and use it to make purchases and get cash directly from your PayPal account. You can also transfer money from your PayPal account to your bank account, a process that typically takes 3 to 4 business days.

What is a pay pal password that works?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The password for your Paypal account should be known only to you ! We in the Wiki community will not help you break the law by hacking into someone else's account !

I fully agree and support the answer provided above if that's the kind of question you were asking. I just wanted to add something extra in case your question was about the requirements of a password that Paypal will accept. When creating an account for Paypal, if you point your cursor in the password field, a small popup appears and gives you the following tips:

- Use 8 to 20 characters.

- Don't use your name or email.

- Use lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

- Create a password that's hard to guess. (if, for example, you make your password baseball because you like the sport, and a friend tries to access your account, baseball would be easy to guess.)

How do you reload your credit card with PayPal?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you are talking about the paypal debit card, it is reliant on your paypal balance. Therefore, if you receive money into your paypal account, or click the "add funds" button in your account to draw money from your bank account will deposit money into your paypal balance. There are now other ways of topping of a paypal balance such as green dot cards that you can buy at supermarkets. If you are not talking about the paypal debit card, then you must talk to your financial institution.

Is there is a chance of a duplicate payment to a vendor whenever using a rush or manual check method of payment?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

While there is always a chance of a duplicate payment being made to a vendor, it is more likely to occur when rushing. Slow down and take time to do it right. It is also more likely when manual checks are written.

Other common causes for duplicate payments include:

  • Duplicate entries in vendor file
  • Control Violations
o Inexperienced temporary staff make simple errors
o New staff lacks a clear understanding of controls
o No purchase order and/or payment approval process in place
o Check requests submitted before receiving an invoice
  • Human Errors
o High volume of invoices with not enough staff causes lack of attention to detail
o Transpositions and mistakes such as keying a zero as the letter O
  • Multiple Submissions of Invoices
o Caused by delay in payment
o Vendor issues duplicate invoice by mistake
o Fraudulent activity where duplicates are made to look like an accident
  • Different Invoice Payment Methods
o P-Cards are used to pay previously paid invoices
o Paying different invoice versions - original, email, fax, scanned, printed
o Vendors initiating new methods of invoicing -- automatic, email, portals

Is it possible to pay via PayPal without adding funds directly to your PayPal account?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, it is possible to pay via PayPal without adding funds directly to that account.

If you have a balance in your PayPal account, for example, if someone has sent you some money or you have sold something through an auction site and so received money into your PayPal account, this will always be taken first to pay for anything you buy using the PayPal account.

If that balance doesn't cover the entire cost of your purchase, the remainder outstanding will automatically be taken from your bank or credit card, depending which you have registered to your PayPal account. The same applies if you have no money at all in PayPal.
