I don't know about "folk tale". The Pony Express really did exist; it carried mail between St. Joseph, Missouri and the west coast (specifically Sacramento, California). This was significant because there were at the time it started no cross-continental telegraph lines or railroads; it was, however, possible to transmit a message from the east coast to St. Joseph by telegraph or via rail and have it carried on horseback from there to Sacramento (where it would then travel down the Sacramento River via steamer to San Francisco).

There were stations about every 10 miles along the route, and the rider would switch horses at each station (10 miles represents about the maximum distance a fresh horse could travel at a full gallop without resting). A given rider would travel 75-100 miles before resting (thus changing horses between 7 and 10 times, on average). This enabled communication between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts in as little as ten days.

The first packet carried by the Pony Express travelled from New York and Washington, DC to St. Joseph via rail. The courier missed a connection in Detroit and was two hours late arriving at Hannibal, MO, thus missing his connection there as well. The railroad cleared the line and dispatched a special express train direct from Hannibal to St. Joseph, crossing the state of Missouri from the Mississippi to the Missouri River in a record 4 hours, 51 minutes... an average speed of 40 miles per hour, nearly unheard-of for the time. The first rider left St. Joseph at about 7 pm on April 4, and the packet arrived at San Francisco at 1 am on April 14, thus vindicating the Pony Express' claim of coast-to-coast delivery in 10 days.

Pony Express riders changed horses approximately every 10 to 15 miles. This allowed them to maintain a rapid pace while covering the roughly 1,900 miles between St. Joseph, Missouri, and Sacramento, California. Each rider would typically travel a leg of about 75 miles before passing the mail to another rider at designated relay stations. The entire route was designed to ensure the mail could be delivered in about 10 days.

The relay made the delivery of the mail faster.

The Pony Express could no longer compete with other methods of carrying messages. The telegraph was installed and it allowed faster means of sending messages. Trains were put in place and did not have the costs of the Pony Express. It was pure economics that shut it down.

The Pony Express was an important mail service, it made communication easier, and it was also replaced by the telegraph.

It wasn't overnight delivery, but it was fast. Ten days fron St. Joseph to San Francisco was like instant messaging compared to the normal six week journey for a letter.

firstly cut the peppers and put them in mini cpheopr with some oil and lemon and then put the mix into a container and freeze it that way you can use it all year roundyou can even make different flavour portions likepeppers and parsley chopped togetherpeppers and garlic chopped togetherpeppers and cilantro chopped togetheretc . then you have more variety til next yearsecondly you can use the crushed chillies in:salsa, soups, omlettes, part of a chicken marinade, on top of fish, in prawns, in a curry, in a pasta sauce, in a chilli, as a marinade in bbq meats, chinese spare ribs hot n spicy etc .hot peppers are a difficult thing to have on their own so why not freeze the chopped portions and use em all year round (to use simply scrape what you need with a spoon or leave to defrost for a bit, use and re freeze or make ice cube portions and that way you can defros one piece at a time and keep in the fridge for about 2 weeks then go for the next bit you can even give some to people you know to try Was this answer helpful?
