I recommend sae 30 older engines since it promotes sealing unless you are in a colder clime & must have a multi. Since it is an 87 I would step it up from 40. If you can afford, you might even go synthetic to increase longevity.

The switch is on the front end of the transmission on the top. When you put the car in reverse a part inside the transmission pushed the back up light switch. It screws into the transmission - you can get to it with the car jacked up high enough.

The best way is to drain the old oil and then measure out how much you have drained. There are 3 drain points, one at the sump and then two others but sometimes the bolts are just too hard to undo so let them be.
I have a 2002 996 turbo and I use around 7.5 European Litres. Also take into account the oil in the filter when draining the filter. You can go to 8 Litres.
A litre is 1 and three quarters of a UK pints. A UK pint is 20 fluid ounces and USA it is 16 fluid ounces so you'll have to use a decent online conversion guide. So 35 Fluid ounces is a European Litre so times that by 7.5 or 8 and you have your answer in fluid ounces.
I hope this is of help, I have just changed the oil on mine so this is a timely question for me to answer. I use Mobil 5W 40 and not the 0w 40 as it seems better in the higher powered engines such as the turbo.
