Goats do eat acorns. If a goat is introduced to a pasture where there are acorns and oak leaves, and the goat had never been exposed to these before, there is a likelihood that the goat will become ill upon ingesting them. The most obvious outward sign is emesis (vomiting). This happens when the toxin (most likely a tannic acid) causes rumen stasis (the rumen stops digesting food). If left untreated, the goat will likely die a horribly painful death. To treat acorn/oak poisoning, use a mixture of mineral oil and milk of magnesia. A 1:1 ratio is what I typically use. Give the goat 90mL orally with a drench gun. Go slowly- you don't want the goat to aspirate anything (especially acorn pieces/oak leaves) into his or her lungs. Offer the goat hay- remove the temptation of the acorns/oak leaves. It's likely the goat won't eat at first- you'll know the goat is improving when it begins to nibble on some hay. After the initial dose of the milk of magnesia/mineral oil concoction, give another 30mL orally every hour until you begin to see signs of improvement. Continue to give 30mL orally every eight hours once you see signs of improvement and discontinue once all signs of illness have been completely absent for twenty-four hours. In the event you see NO signs of improvement within the first eight hours of treatment, or a worsening of symptoms, call your veterinarian. Your goat may have ingested too much, may have aspirated and contracted pneumonia, or may have organ failure (liver or kidney).

How long is a totara berry in new zealand?
The berry of the Totara (and there are several species) is small - ovoid and smaller than a black currant. The one I like most is the Totara nivalus - the alpine totara- same size as above, and tastes a little of turpentine - but edible.
What does a brush tail possum look like?
The brush tailed possum is one of seven species and is about the size of a cat. It has a pointy snout and a pink nose. Its whiskers are long. They can grow to as big as 550mm long plus a tail which is another 250-400mm long. The tail is prehensile and assists the sharp claws in climbing trees. They are furry and those in Tasmania are furrier as they have adapted to the colder climate. They are usually black, grey or the smaller Queensland variety is sometimes copper coloured. Such colour variations have been seen also in Tasmania and the image is of a pale copper coloured brushtail.
It is about 8 to 12" long, has an elongated body, 4 legs, white hair, long tail, and 2 beady eye, and is nocturnal. Which means, they cannot see during the day, and are more active during the night.

Which species of possum is able to fly?
No species of possum is able to fly. In fact, no marsupial is able to fly.
However, there are many species of Gliders - small marsupials, similar to possums, which can glide between treetops. Varieties include the Sugar Glider, Feathertail Glider, Greater Glider, Squirrel Glider, Pygmy Glider and Yellow bellied Glider. As they launch, their forelimbs and hind limbs splay out, exposing gliding membranes which extend from the equivalent of their wrists to the knees, and allow them to glide between treetops and poles. Most species can glide up to 90 metres, while the squirrel glider has been recorded at 100m.
The only mammal capable of actual flight is the bat.

Does female possums have more than one uterus?
Yes, female possums have two uteri, which is a characteristic of marsupials. Each uterus can support the development of a young possum, and they typically give birth to multiple offspring at once. After birth, the tiny, underdeveloped young climb into the mother's pouch to continue their development. This reproductive system allows them to be highly adaptable in their breeding.
Make sure you seal all outside openings: Caulk or glue all cracks and seams, and place screens across vent openings. If wood components are found to be bored through (Bumble Bees will chew a hole right through)treat holes with creosote and apply a sealant over it to prevent bleeding into the paint then oeverpait to match original color.
