How old was the Prophet Muhammad when he saw Jibril?

The Prophet Muhammad was around 40 years old when the angel appeared to him

All the Prophets (May peace be upon them all) were chosen ones. They were destined to be prophets. The last Prophet of Islam, Hazrat Muhammad SAW was a Prophet even before his coming to this world. However, he was ordained by Almighty Allah to start preaching His message when he was about 40 years of age. Only one Prophet, Hazrat Jesus Christ (May peace be upon him) announced to the people at his birth that he was a prophet to prove to the people the innocence of his mother, Hazrat Maryam (AS), as his birth was an unusual miracle. The other prophets lived a normal life among the people and at a ripe age started preaching the message of Almighty Allah.

Why did some Meccans not accept Muhammad's teaching?

The Middle East and North Africa remains a region home to multiple faiths. These faiths have the freedom to accept and choose their beliefs and religious practice. Muhammad was a man with his own views and political policies. For Jews, Christians, and other faiths 'people' (this question references), they had/have the right to their independent convictions rather than be forced to accept his sect's beliefs.

How did Muhammad's followers respond to his death?

They split into the Shia and the Sunnis because they didn't know who the leader should be.

The Shias believed it should be blood relation, while the Sunnis believed the leader should be chosen.

Why are there no pictures of Mohammed and Allah?

When and where was Muhammad born?

It is commonly believed that prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Mecca (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) on the "12th day of Rabi-ul-Awwal", equivalent to Monday April 20, 571 A.D. This day is celebrated by Muslims and is generally accepted to have been "invented" later in Islamic tradition, around the 12th or 13th Century.

A detailed explanation of the origin of this date can be found here:

[BEGIN QUOTE]

"It seems that the tendency to celebrate the memory of Muhammad's birthday on a larger and more festive scale emerged first in Egypt during the Fatimid Era (969-1171). This is logical, for the Fatimids claim to be the Prophet's decendants through his daughter Fatima. The Egyptian historian Maqrizi (d.1442) basing his account on Fatimid sources. It was apparently an occasion in which mainly scholars and the religious establishment participated. They listened to sermons, and sweets, particularly honey, the Prophet's favorite, were distributed; the poor received alms."

[...]

"The first comprehensive work about the Prophet's birth, as far as one knows, was composed by the Andalusian author Ibn Dihya, who had participated in the festive maulid in Arbela in 1207. Written in prose with a concluding poetical economium , his work has the characteristic title Kitab at-tanwir fi maulid as-siraj al-munir (The Book of Illumination about the Birth of the Luminous Lamp), in which the light-mysticism associated with Muhammad is evident. Two Hanabilites, Ibn al-Jauzi and, a century and half later, Ibn Kathir, devoted treatises to the maulid. Poetical works about this important event were also composed relatively early."

This gives us the date but not the hour. Astrodatabank provides a horoscope (rated XX) for this traditional birth date, Monday, April 20 571, and the reference is:

[BEGIN QUOTE]

Manly Hall in the NAJ 1933 states "recorded" at ... 1:25:35 AM LMT. Rao gives the same data as "reproduced from the writings of Professor B. Suryanarian."...

[END QUOTE]

Since Astrodatabank never checks references and depends on what others say, we have no way of knowing what these "writings" might be. It would be nice to know what are the original sources of this horoscope...

This date shows a close conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in early Scorpio, and fits perfectly in the medieval astrological doctrine of Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions. The conjunction of 571 is the beginning of a major or "grand" triplicity shift according to the chronology of Masha'allah: <> (page vi of E. S. Kenedy and David Pingree "The Astrological History of Masha'Allah", Harvard Univ. Press, 1971). It wouldn't be unreasonable to assume, then, that this date was fabricated.

II.

But Masha'allah, one of the first extant authors to adopt this doctrine and explain its details, uses a very different date for Muhammed's birth, when Jupiter and Saturn were separated by 17 degrees. There is a reference to Masha'allah date in Astrodatabank, however almost everything in it is wrong:

(NOTE: in the following quote, the date is given as February 9 first, February 7 later. The time "3 p.m." does not appear in the original paragraph at all nor in Biruni's account. Anushirwan is spelled "Anushirwaf". "1 Favardin" is quoted as "Pavardin", and the years, 574 and 575, should be 571 and 572.)

[BEGIN QUOTE]

Ruth Dewey gives February 9, 575 AD N.S., 3:00 PM from "The Astrological History of Masha'Allah," translated by Kennedy and Pingree, Harvard University Press, 1971, p.127, "Date recorded by Biruni as being Monday, the Khur (eleventh) of the month Dai in the year 41 of Anushirwaf. At the beginning of the 7th hour, with the Sun in the liver of heaven and the ASC in Cancer. Pavardin of the 41st year of Anushirwaf according to the calendar was May 3, 574 AD, and therefore the day was February 7, 575, which was indeed a Monday. this date is from Arabic astrology in the 8th century."

[END QUOTE]

compare this with what is really written in the book by Kenedy and Pingree (p127):

-----------------

APPENDIX 1

Masha'allah´s Date of the Prophet's Birth.

This date is recorded in his "Chronology" (*) by Biruni as being Monday, the day of Khur (11) of the month Dai in the year 41 of Anushirwan at the beginning of the seventh hour with the Sun in "the liver of heaven" and the Ascendant in Cancer. 1 Favardin of the 41st year of Anushirwan according to Masha'allah's calendar was 3 May 571; and therefore 11 Dai, the day of the Prophet's birth, was 7 February 572, which was indeed a Monday. The Sun was then in Aquarius, and would have been setting if Cancer had been in the Ascendant. This passage in Biruni confirms our previous assertions regarding the "zij" used by Masha'allah and its calendar.

---------------

Masha'allah was a a Jewish astrologer from Baghdad who flourished in the middle of the 8th century and apparently participated in the calculations that led to the astrological founding of Bhagdad in 762 AD. Kenedy and Pingree give here a reference to Al-Biruni (973-1048) in his book "Al-Athar al-Baqiyah'an al-Qorun al-Khaliya" (The Chronology of Ancient Nations), written in about AD 1000. Biruni mentions Masha'allah's horoscope of Muhammed, using the calendrical system of Masha'allah himself.

According to E.S. Kenedy in the preface (p. viii of the Kenedy and Pingree), Masha'allah died somewhere between AD 809 and 829. Since, according to the authors (page 105), Muhammed died 8 June 632, this means that Masha'allah's mention of the horoscope of Muhammed was made somewhere between 130-150 years after the Prophet's death. In page 113, the authors write: <>. With this we have an upper limit for this horoscope of 815-632 = 183 years after the death of Muhammed.

We don't know the sources of Masha'allah for the birth data, but it is not unreasonable to assume that he used older sources available to him, or was repeating what at his time was oral knowledge. Of course the horoscope may have been "invented", but since this is probably the oldest reference to his horoscope known today, I believe it is a valuable historical and astrological reference point.

III.

Masha'allah used the "Zij al-Shah" or "tables of the Shah", so his positions were sidereal based on the Sasanian zero point or ayanamsa. Details of the Sasanian sidereal zero point can be found in my examination of the horoscope of the founding of Baghdad in my site:

http://www.expreso.co.cr/centaurs/posts/mundane/baghdad.html

Muhamed's traditional place of birth is Mecca (39e49/21n27). Sunrise occurred that day at 6h24m solar time (6h40m40s LMT), so "the seventh hour" described by Biruni is somewhere between approximately 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. LMT, and not close to sunset, as the authors say erroneously. The main reference point (in addition to "the seventh hour") to ascertain the hour is Biruni's mention of the Ascendant in Cancer according to Masha'allah. I use Riyal and the Sasanian ayanamsa and obtain:

7 Feb AD 572:

14h 06m LMT = ASC. 00,04 Cancer

16h 20m LMT = ASC. 29,55 Cancer

(sunset occured at 17h53m LMT)

One can calculate <> as described by Biruni more accurately. From my last post:

sunrise = 6h41m LMT

sunset = 17h53m LMT

12 "seasonal" hours is then equivalent to 11h12m "equinoctial" hours. 7 hours is equivalent to 6h32m after sunrise, "the seventh hour" being from 13h13m LMT to 14h09m. However, this calculation, though accurate, does not reflect necessarily what Masha'allah had in mind, because he had to be working with tables of rising times which are unknown to us, and which were probably inaccurate or cast for another latitude. Our modern computations will give only a rough approximation to the (innacurate) measurements ancient astrologers were using.

This establishes that the (alleged) birth according to Masha'allah, based on the knowledge available to him about 150 years years after Muhammed died, took place sometime around 2:00 p.m. of 7 February A.D. 572, in Mecca (39e49/21n27).

Keep in mind that using the tropical zodiac will shift the time somewhat.

To summarize, we have:

1-) 7th hour = from 13h13m LMT to 14h09m

2-) Cancer on the Ascendant (sidereal/Sasanian) = from 14h06m to 16h20m LMT

These are only points of reference. It is of course impossible to know what was the degree on the Ascendant according to Masha'allah.

IV.

It is clear that the date "12 Rabi' ul-awwal" --20 April 571-- is based on legend and tradition, and came in late (12th century), while the Masha'alla date is of a different order, purely astrological and relatively close (about 150 years) to the death of Muhammed. This obviously is no proof that the date (7 Feb 572) is historically correct, but I think it is an interesting and important reference point astrologically speaking. Altough there are other times traditionally used by Muslims to celebrate the birthday of their Prophet, this one ante-dates all the others by a far margin, and is much closer to the time of Muhammed.

Astrologers tend to think that traditional dates --dates based on legend or myth, without "true" historical foundation-- are worthless. I think this is a mistake. It is the "epiphanical" and imaginative meaning we give to a date what matters, not if the date refers to a "real" physical event. There is (often) nothing physical about the time we choose to do a horary chart, for example, or about many inceptional event charts. "Events" are often purely subjective or fictional, and are non-events for other people.

We have for example the date "December 25, 1 B.C. at midnight in Bethlehem", a date celebrated by all Christendom for 2 millenia, and nobody seems to think that the date is astrologically significant! I confess I have never done any serious work with this chart, probably afraid of being considered an ignorant fool by the whole astrological establishment. This unfortunately is not considered serious work.

On the other hand, besides of course the "chart of Islam" made for 16 July 622 at sunset, which I think is very powerful, we have the date of Muhammed's death (8 June 632), which apparently is indisputable historically speaking. There is no need to speculate on the true date of birth for astrological purposes when we have the true date of death. Unless we are rotten materialists who think Astrology deals only with the physical or the biological, the horoscope of death often offers a better perspective of an individual´s spiritual constitution, especially, as in this case, when the real (and in this case monumental) spiritual legacy they left to the whole of mankind became effective after (or because) they died.

My historical notes on the chart of Islam can be found here.

Muhammad (PBUH) is a perfect man ever on the earth, He was the one who did what he said. He always called people towards Islam The true religion, no matter what people said about him no matter what people did to him. He always prayed Allah to give them hidayah, bring them to the right path who are disbelievers. Although Muhammad (PBUH) was uneducated, He never spoke a word which has contradicted ever since. He spoke on every field of life like history, theory, metaphysics, biology physics, medicine, trade, way of living etc etc. Each and every word He spoke is true as He said by his own that "Every word coming out of my mouth is true and is coming out on the orders of ALLAH". Because of His character, people of Makkah used to name him Sadiq and Amin. He Always spoke the truth, did what was said by ALLAH. He did not only discribed the Quran and Hadees and Islam but He practically did what he said and asked people to do what ALLAH said. He was the king after his prophet-hood but lived like a poor man. He suffered so many hardships after his prophet-hood.

Answer 3

Mohammed made numerous achievements.

Prophethood/Messengerhood: Islam holds that there have been thousands of Prophets disseminated to the far corners of the planet to tell people to be monotheistic. However, there were only five Messengers of God. The difference being that a Messenger brings a Divinely Extant Book to the Earth by way of his prophecy. The five Messengers of God were Adam, Noah, Moses, Jesus, and Mohammed. Moses brought the people the Torah and Jesus brought the people the Gospel. These books, in Islamic belief, were originally perfect copies of the Divine Versions of these Scriptures. In time, they were corrupted from their original meaning. Mohammed brought down the Qur'an in an act of Finality. His act of Prophethood was so great and important that he was never to be followed.

Transmission of the Qur'an: Mohammed received the final message from God which was, in Islamic tradition, the only Divine Message that was properly recorded as given. The Qur'an, the Divine Book of Islam, is considered a verbatim recollection of the words imprinted onto Mohammed's heart. Since it is the clearest indicator of the Divine Will, his willingness and fortitude in transmitting it is praised.

Islamic State: Mohammed was not only a religious leader (a modern Imam), but was a theocrat, actively building and maintaining a community. In so doing, he set up a number of the systems and traditional mechanisms that hold a Muslim Community together and provide a blueprint for an Islamic State. The Islamic Community of Yethrib (now called Medina), which he founded and led prior to victory over Meccan Forces, is used as the "role model community" for nearly every strain of Islam. Feminists point to some of his edicts as being more feminist than other societies and Conservatives point to some of his edicts as being more traditional. Regardless, the desirability of replicating the Yethribi Community cannot be overstated.

Hakam: During his life as a leader of the Islamic Communities he served as a Judge or Arbitrator. This term is known as "Hakam" in Arabic. He would settle disputes between different Muslims or between Muslims and Non-Muslims or between groups of Non-Muslims. As a Hakam, he created much of Islamic Case Law or Hadith. The Hadith were remarks made by Mohammed or actions he took in response to these legal issues. The Hadith form a much larger corpus of law than the Qur'an strictly read.

Character: Muslims believe Mohammed's character to be unassailable and virtuous. Similarly to how they wish to emulate his community in their communities, they wish to emulate his lifestyle in their lives.

Warrior: Mohammed was a very capable warrior and was famed for being such a strong man than he would wear two sets of armor into battle. (Armor was heavy in those days.) This militant aspect to Mohammed was necessary as the Meccans (the dominant Arabian city-state) were opposed to Islam and made several attempts to conquer Yethrib and remove Islam. Had the Meccans been successful, Islam would not exist today. In addition to his heroism on the battlefield, Mohammed also was a good orator, preparing his followers before the battles for the hardship to come.

Islamic Imperialism: By conquering other Arabian Tribes, Mohammed set the precedent of how Islam would function. He tolerated monotheistic tribes in Arabia and made peace with them. At the same time he demanded conversion from pagans or henotheists to Islam. Furthermore, after the Fall of Mecca, the Islamic Empire (still under Mohammed) expanded rapidly to the entire Arabian Peninsula. This precedent of quick conquest (within a few years) also gave direction to the faith. The strength of these Empires served as a witness to many Muslims of the strength and veracity of their faith.

Why does Muhammad's face is always covered?

It is a question of modesty. Most Muslim women who cover themselves actually do not wear a niqab, abaya, or burqa, but just a hijaab or chador. As a result, most of their face shows, just not the hair.

Who is the husband of Fatima Bint Al Khatab?

If you mean Fatima Ahmed Ibrahim, the Sudanese writer and women rights activist, her husband was Alshafi Ahmed Elshikh.

Where did Muhammad seek refuge after fleeing mecca?

Prophet Muhammad didn't flee from any place. He is prophet and is supported, defended, and inspired by God. Prophet migrated from Mecca to Medina upon God command to him to do so. This migration is called Hijra.

Hijra is an Arabic word that means Migration or immigration. It refers to the Migration of prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) from Mecca city to Medina (currently, both in kingdom of Saudi Arabia) in year 622 AD when he was informed by God that it is plotted by the Mecca leaders of the disbelievers to assassinate him.

What does Muhammad teach his followers?

Praise be to Allah, the Almighty, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the Universe, and peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, last of the Prophets, and upon all those who adhere to his example until the Day of Judgement. The Mushrik Nobles in Makkah wanted ti silence Muhammad alihisalam because He wanted people to worship 1 Allah Kareem and stop worshipping millions of Self dessined Gods:Muhammad alihisalam wanted people to say "O Allah u r 1 we worship u alone without associating any partners to U and only Your assistance do we seek". The Nobles Knew if People got aware about truth ,it will be difficult for these nobles to Loot/Fool people and eat their money in the name of religion or good deeds.

Some of the main Teachings of Muhammad Last Prophet towards whole mankind [peace be upon him and his faithful beautiful Suhabahs/campanions that include Aba Bakr, Ummar ibnil Khattab,Usmaan bin Afaan & Ali Radhiyallahuanhoo] is:-

Faith is the foundation upon which the whole structure of nations is based. Therefore, the progress of each nation is dependent upon the maintenance of its faith and ideology. Thus, all Prophets (peace be upon them) have called for true faith. Every Prophet told his people from the very beginning, "Worship Allah, the Almighty. You have no other god but Him".(1) "We assuredly sent amongst every people an Apostle, (with the command), Serve Allah and eschew evil".(2) This is because Allah the Almighty created all people to worship Him alone and set up no associate to Him. "I have only created jinns and men that they may worship Me".(3)

Worship is the exclusive right of Allah owed to Him by His creation mankind. Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) once said to Muath ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him): "Do you know what duties and rights people have towards Allah'? The duty of mankind towards Allah is to worship Him and attribute no partner to Him. The right of mankind is that Allah will not torture those who do not attribute any partner to Him".(4) This right of worship is the foremost right of Allah owed to Him by His people. "Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him." (5) "Say : Come, I will recite to you what Allah has really forbidden to you : Join not any-thing as equal with Allah".(6)

This right has priority over all other rights because it is the foundation upon which all other precepts of the religion (of Islam) are based.

Therefore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) during the thirteen years of his preaching in Makkah, constantly called upon people to observe this right of Allah and forbid any partner to Him. The Holy Quran in most of its verses, has confirmed this concept and negated any resemblance to Him. Every Muslim in his five daily prayers pledges to Allah to observe this right by saying, "You alone do we worship and only Your assistance do we seek". (7)

This great right is referred to as the singleness of worship, deity or objective and purpose. This monotheism is ingrained in man's nature. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said "Every child is born with a (pure) innate character. His parents may turn him to become a Jew, a Christian or Mazdist" (8). Therefore, believing in the oneness of Allah is innate and original, whereas idolatry is spurious and unnatural. Man will deviate from the right path only because of false upbringing and surroundings. Allah the Almighty stated in the Holy Quran "Mankind was one single nation, and Allah sent messengers with glad tidings and warnings; and with them He sent the Book, in truth, to judge between people in matters wherein they differed".(9) Simarly, He, the Almighty, also stated in they Holy Quran "Mankind was but one nation, but differed later". (10)

Moreover, Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) said, "Ten centuries lapsed from Adam to Noah (peace be upon them and all people adhered to Islam during that perished". (11) Ibn-ulQaiyim, the learned scholar, commented on this by saying "This interpretation (by Ibn Abbas) of the above verse is correct."(12) He cited examples from the Holy Quran to support this idea an confirmed it in his commentary, "The Meaning of the Quran".

The first incident of polytheism took place among the people of Noah when they exceeded the limits of respect for their saints and started worshipping them despite exhortation by their Prophets. As it is stated in the Holy Quran"And they have said (to each other), abandon not your gods : abandon neither Wadd for Suwa, neither Yaguth not Yauq".(13) Bukhari quoted Ibn Abbas as saying that "The above names were those of pious men among the people of Noah. When these pious men died, Satan suggested to the people of Noah that they erect statues of those pious men in their homes and call the statues by these pious men's names. Thus, people did so, but did not worship the statues. The statues, however, in later generations become idols to be worshipped." (14)

What is the name if the prophet Muhammad's first daughter?

Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him has four dauters:

1) Zainab

What was the problem after Muhammad died?

Muslims were never split in their religious faith or Islam principles. They are just referred to different schools or different historical views.

This claimed split was not in religion or because religious differences. The claimed split was historically on the approach to be adopted on the selection of who succeeds prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in ruling the Islamic State. Some Muslims (called after that Sunnis) preferred to elect Abou Bakr as the first successor in ruling the country (called Caliph). Some others (called after that Shiites) claimed that the ruler after prophet Muhammad death should be from Muhammad's family and according to this approach should be Aly Ibn Aboutaleb, Prophet Muhammad cousin and husband of his daughter Fatima. However, when Abou Bakr was agreed upon by the majority, all people (Sunnis and Shiites) accepted him as the first Caliph, including Aly (God be pleased with him) himself. The same was repeated again when Omar was elected as the second Caliph after Abou Bakr death and again after Othman election as the third Caliph. Then Aly was elected as the fourth Caliph.
