What are the foods allowed in psoriasis?

This is a long answer but PLEASE read it......... I found a REAL solution to psoriasis through diet!!!

As a sufferer of psoriasis for about 12 years I have tried just about everything available from the doctor to try and control it. Pills, creams, soaks, etc. Unfortunately nothing worked, in fact it got worse, so bad that my skin became so dry and thickened that the simple act of just trying to bend my fingers would result in instant deep splits which bled all the time. I couldn't even write anymore with a pen because my skin wouldn't stretch to allow my hands to have proper movement. I would step out of bed in the morning and my feet would split in about 5 places, deep to the blood. I couldn't get my hands or feet wet because the water absoloulty stung beyond belief. I looked like a burns victim.

I did my own little trial with foods and noticed that when I ate pumpkin kernels (green ones) my skin improved. These are loaded with zinc which helps the skin. I also ate nuts (cashews, Brazil's - when I could afford them!)

It was still not enough to give me a normal life so I tried eliminating milk (all dairy). This helped a lot but still not enough.

Finally (a few months ago) I eliminated gluten. I substituted it with rice or corn crackers. Without a word of a lie, within about 6 hours I noticed that my feet were not itchy. (They were at this time, totally covered with thick crusty white flaking skin and itched like crazy) The itching had totally stopped! Within 1 week you could see such a huge improvement, and after 2 weeks thee were only a few very small thin patches left!!

Then I had wheat bread a few days later (I had lunch at a friends) and noticed that about 6 or so hours later my feet itched really badly again! I have discovered that I will itch within several hours after I have anything with gluten it it EVERY time, and if I continue to eat it, the psoriasis comes back very fast!

My advice is to try (even just for a week) to have NO gluten (no wheat, rye, barley or oats) and see if you are gluten-intolerant. Eating pumpkin kernals and nuts is very good too.

I have spoken to several other psoriasis sufferers and most are allergic to gluten and improved when they emininated it.

I hope this helps you - my family and friends are amazed at how I have improved - and just through my diet! I am now about 5 months into it, and my hands are clear as a bell, and my feet are "almost" there!!

Any cure for psoriasis?

Psoriatic arthritis is very similar in many ways to rheumatoid arthritis. although often the inflamation and swelling caused by it is alot more serious and usually very painful.

As with all types of arthritis, there is no 'cure' - that is, there is no way of making it go away totally. However, there are many things you can do to relieve the inflamation and pain to enable you to live a normal life.

Of course, as you are most probably aware, there are many different medicinal cures for arthritis - if you are thinking of taking any such cure, it is best to consult a qualified doctor first.

However, the alternative (and the way that I manage my arthritis), is through natural means. Regular excercise is a popular way of managing many forms of arthritis - there are a large number of videos on the web outlining some of the exercises suitable for arthritis sufferers.

Other methods include dietry suppliments. Gin soaked golden raisins are often touted as a popular way of relieving the pain of PA (and other forms of arthritis), as is taking ginger. Personally, I have always found that a few tart cherries first thing in the morning have helped ease the pain of very quickly (generally within 30-40 minutes), and then I always keep a few with me during the day just in case.

Nystatin and Triamcinolone acetonide cream?

Nystatin is for fungal infections, and triamcinolone is for a variety of skin conditions that can cause itchy irritated skin such as eczema. Neither of these can cure herpes, because herpes is a virus. In fact, steroids like triamcinolone should not be used on viral infections like herpes or chicken pox because they reduce your immune system and can make the infection spread.

There are creams that can be used for herpes, and these are antiviral creams. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

I had a sudden flare up of guttate psoriasis 2 months ago and it still hasn't gone away what can I do to stop the itching and make it clear up so I can sleep?

I'm no expert, but it does take time. I'm sure you know that Calamine Lotion is the primary drying/healing agent, but you will still be driven NUTS by the itching UNLESS you add a 1 oz. tube of Hydrocortosone cream (OTC) to the 6 ounce bottle of Calamine Lotion. This means a new container, as you will want to add water if it doesn't mix easily and well. .... say1/4 of the volume of the mix, to start, and go higher until YOU are happy with its application viscosity. Use a small battery driven "drink mixer", or similar means to make the "cream" smooth and frothy and you'll need a larger container to bottle the increased volume of water and Hydrocortosone. I suggest application with say, a 3/4 inch wide artists brush. Works great for me, and doesn't waste the material. I'd guess that it takes about a month to clear up this form of psoriasis - give or take a week or two, but the action towards healing is quite apparent once this combo is applied.

having greasy hair isn't ever really good, it means that it isn't clean, or that you maybe failed to rinse out conditioner from your hair after a shower. however, if your hair is greasy right after you take a shower and you really washed out your conditioner, it could be due to puberty, just like your face gets oily during puberty, so can your scalp.
