Quidditch

Quidditch is a sport that originated in the Harry Potter book series, in which wizards fly around on broomsticks trying to score points by catching a small gold Snitch, or beating a Quaffle into one of three goalposts. In 2007, the International Quidditch Association was formed and real college Quidditch teams were formed and 'muggles' began to play.

Do you think Madam Hooch in Harry Potter could be a lesbian?

User Avatar

Asked by Alicia Marquis

I want to explain myself a bit... I forgot it in the context.

I would like her to be, I have always had a big crush on her, so I demand honest opinions from other people.

Physically speaking, she may look like a lesbian, with her short hair, tie, strict and stern demeanor, but unfortunately, sexual orientation cannot be judged by physical appearance or dress style. It's more complicated than that.

J.K Rowling once said in an interview that Madam Hooch doesn't have a romantic background, so you could imagine what you wanted.

We don't know much about her, we don't even know what house she was in when she studied at Hogwarts. It's a shame that all the secondary characters are the most beautiful and interesting and we hardly ever see them and we don't know anything about them ! Life is unfair !

How is Quidditch played?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Quidditch is a game played by characters in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series.

The game is played on broomsticks outside on a oval-shaped pitch. There are two teams of 7 players, with 4 balls in play at all times.

The first ball is called the Quaffle. The Quaffle is handled by the three Chasers. It is passed between the Chasers towards the opposing team's Keeper, who guards his team's three hoops. When a Chaser passes the Quaffle through one of the three hoops, his team scores 10 points.

There are 2 balls called Bludgers, which are self-propelled balls, enchanted to try and unseat as many players from both teams as possible. There are two players on each team that handle the Bludgers, called Beaters. These players carry clubs that they use to keep the Bludgers from hitting their own teammates, and try and hit them towards the opposing team members.

The last ball in play is called the Golden Snitch. This is a golf ball-sized ball with fluttering wings that eludes capture by both team's seekers. The Seeker who catches the Golden Snitch usually wins the game for his/her team, as this ends the game and gives his team 150 points. This means both that the Seeker has the most dangerous job and are fouled the most and that the team that catches the Snitch almost always wins but not necessarily.

There are also 700 possible fouls in Quidditch but only one match has ever had all of the possible fouls.

Is Quidditch a real sport?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Quidditch is a fictional game played in the Harry Potter books. In 2005, students at Middlebury College in Vermont started playing Quidditch as an intermural sport. The first intercollegiate Quidditch match was held in November 2007 between Middlebury College and Vassar College. In 2007, the Intecollegiate Quidditch Association was founded. In 2010 it changed its name to the International Quidditch Association.

Over 400 colleges and 300 high schools compete in Quidditch, the majority of which are in the United States. Every year, the IQA holds a World Cup tournament in New York City where four colleges compete for the title.

Although the sport is played at many colleges, it is not officially recognized as a NCAA sport. See related links for more information on the IQA.

In the Harry Potter books, Quidditch is a game played on flying broomsticks. There are 7 players - 2 beaters, 3 chasers, 1 keeper and 1 seeker. The chasers try to put the quaffle past the keeper and through the hoops at the end of the field, the beaters try to keep the bludgers away from their teammates, and seeker tries to catch the golden snitch to end the game. Each quaffle is worth 10 points and the golden snitch is worth 150 points.

What would be a Quidditch ball's weight be in kilograms?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Depends which ball you're talking about. There are 3 different types of balls. I imagine that the quaffle would be about the weight of a netball ball, but a bludger would be much heavier. And then the snitch is obviously not going to weigh much, it's so small :)

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Um, no... He only played in school. He played every year except his seventh, fourth, and part of his fifth, due to You-Know-Who taking over, the Triwizard Tournament, and punishment from Umbridge, respectively. So in total, Harry played Quidditch for about four and a half years.

How was Ron REALLY chosen for Quidditch keeper?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

He was chosen because he performed better than his rival, but there were contributing factors:

1.) Ron Weasley had increased confidence due to the false belief that Harry Potter had spiked his drink with a luck potion. Ron had the talent inside of him naturally, but simply had lacked the confidence to show it. This ruse by Harry, helped Ron shine.

2.) Hermione Granger used a spell during the tryouts to make Ron Weasley's rival make a mistake. The skill levels between Ron and his rival were so close, that Hermione wasn't sure who would be chosen, so she used the spell to tip the scales in Ron's favour.

Did Hermione Granger ever play quidditch?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Although she was often frustrated with Ron and Harry's enthusiasm for the game, Hermione has played quidditch with them. In the beginning of Chapter Six of the Half-Blood Prince it states: He spent most of his days playing two-a-side Quidditch in the Weasley's orchid (he and Hermione against Ron and Ginny; Hermione was dreadful and Ginny good , so they were reasonably well matched). However, she never played on any of the house teams.
