Can you mix a lionhead rabbit and jersey wooly?

Yes, just make sure that they are about the same size and make sure that they are neutered or spayed. Any rabbit can be put in a cage [together] if they are neutered/spayed, friendly, and possibly the same size.

Every rabbit should have it's own cage even if it is neutered/spayed. Rabbits are very territorial and putting them in the same cage is not a good idea. This could turn the most docile animal into an ear ripper or worse. Believe me if you had ever seen a rabbit killed by another rabbit you would not risk it by putting your beloved pets in the same cage.

Why do mother rabbits kill their babies?

PROTECTION! believe it or not if the babies are in danger or she thinks they are she will eat them .. of course there's other reasons too but i think this one is the main reason.

Why a Female Rabbit Would Kill Her Young.Well, when a female rabbit kills her young, it normally means she's been scared by something, or someone, and she believe the only way to protect them is to kill them herself, so they may not be eaten by anything else.

When a rabbit has just had babies, the only thing you should do for them, is provide them with plenty of hay, change their water once every three days, and give them food everyday, and provide more food then you normally would.

You have to be very careful when doing this, because if you were to scare her, it could lead to her killing her young. :( So, slow moves, and don't get too close.

How do you know how old a baby rabbit is?

If the rabbits are still nursing then they are under 6 weeks old. It is hard to tell on smaller breeds like Netherland Dwarfs or Polish since they are already a small breed.

If a baby rabbit has no fur it is less than 3 days old. If their eyes are still closed they are less than 10 days old. If the babies have begun to eat but they are losing most of the pellets thru the wire (wasting the pellets) they are less than 6 weeks old. At this point they may still be nursing but by 7 to 8 weeks old the doe has weaned them or is trying to wean them and will not let them nurse.

When two baby rabbit is the mother rabbit dangerous?

it is not dangerus but you need to make the mother rabbit feel extra comfortable
and try to keep the baby rabbit safe and not let them fight

belley9743- There is no danger to the baby rabbits at any stage of their life. Although if YOU get too close to the mother she might become aggressive and try and scratch you with her two front paws. Rabbits are vegetarian so there is no problem with mothers trying to eat their babies.

When can a baby bunny leave the mother?

You should start weaning baby rabbits at 6 weeks of age and all of them should be weaned by 8 weeks of age. So, there is your answer, 6 to 8 weeks of age.

They usually don't start eating pellets good until 5-6 weeks.

Rabbits might start nibbling a little hay and pellets at 4 weeks, but they need 2-4 more weeks before they're fully weaned and ready to leave their mother.

Your rabbit has been pregnant for over 40 days what can you do?

She may not have took when you bred her. You might want to try again. Has she had babies before or is this her first time? If you are unsure if she took or not gently feel her belly to see if she is forming any milk.

What happens when a rabbit scratches you?

It will leave a mark.

Wash the cut thoroughly, dry it and allow it to heal! A bunny scratch is unlikely to do any severe harm.

Can a rabbit get pregnant at 3 months old?

No, it is highly unlikely. Small breeds (such as dwarfs, holland lops, mini rex, etc) become sexually mature between 4-6 months. Medium breeds (such as most meat breeds) between 6-8 months. Giant breeds (such as flemish giants, checkered giants, etc) between 8-10 months.

What household things can be used to feed an infant rabbit?

Infant rabbits must be fed by their mothers. They shouldn't eat or drink anything, except for their mother's milk.

WILD RABBITS

If you have found infant rabbits outside, you should probably leave them alone. Rabbit mothers don't sit on their nests like birds: they visit once or twice a day to feed their babies, and otherwise they go away to graze. If they sat with their babies, they would attract predators, so they hide them.

If you're positive that you've found an abandoned nest, call a local organization that knows what to do. For example, look for wildlife rescue groups, humane societies, OSPCAs, or government agencies.

PET RABBITS

If your pet bunny had babies, let her take care of them. Make sure she has hay, water, and food, and make sure they're all comfortable, but otherwise leave them alone.

If she isn't taking care of her babies, or if the mother isn't around, then you should ask your vet or a local rabbit rescue group for help (like a House Rabbit Society group).

HAND-REARING INFANT RABBITS

Chances of survival are low, even if you've done this before. There are no perfect substitutes for rabbit's milk. Also, it's not just about the food -- there's much more to successfully hand-rearing animals than just the right food.

Wild cottontails - Most experts say to use goat's milk.

Pet rabbits - Most experts say to use KMR (Kitten Milk Replacement -- this is a commercial product you can get from the vet or pet store).

  • Do not use cow milk.
  • Do not use baby formula.
  • Do not use any household things.

How many days does it take to get pregnant from the day of intercourse?

It can take from 1 week to 3 weeks after you've had sex to be able to tell on a test! But keep in mind a male sperm can live inside a woman for up to 4 days after ejaculation and then go to the woman's egg! So it all depends on the man, like usual..lol...always waiting for the man's move!

When would you put the baby rabbit with an older one?

When the baby rabbit is weaned and old enough to be taken from his/her mother. Normally around 8-10 weeks.

How long do girl rabbits have to be with boy rabbits?

you need to watch them. dont think you need to give them privacy because if something did go wrong (if they started fighting) you can stop it. just once you see that they have bread take them apart for a few hours nd put them together one more time nd that should do it.

If you are breeding put the doe in with the buck and watch them, the buck should get on the does back and hump her. When he falls off (he may give a high pitched squeal) remove the doe. You CAN put her back in for one more breeding if you want to make sure.

Do you have to leave new baby bunnies when they have just been born?

If the mother is a first time mom, do not touch her babies until they have their eyes open. If she trusts you and has had litters before this one, you may touch the babies but rub some of her nesting material on your hands first to keep her scent on them.

How many days will the baby bunnies grow?

after the delivery, as you observed they don't have pug or skin yet, but suddenly as the day passed they grow. after a week, your bunny or rabbit had the big difference between the first day and a 1st week, because they grew/changed up everyday. they grow up fast so nothing to worry,. don't let your BOY bunny be with the GIRL bunny after the delivery. you should separate them for about 1 month, for the sake of baby bunnies. BABY and their MOM should put in One Cage. you should give concentration of your bunnies if that is the first delivery because some bunnies killed their babies when they are much hungry.

How many times a day should a baby rabbit eat?

baby rabbits don't eat a big portion of food when they start off but if there is a lot of babies then you will need a bit of extra for.

Try giving him half a handful of food if he's small, but increase the amount as he grows or if he eats the 1/2 handful really quick and is still hungry.

How often do bunnies have babies?

As often as they are bred. It takes approx. 30 days to have babies and a doe CAN be rebred the same day she kindles. (This is not a good practice besides having tons of babies it will shorten the life of your doe.) A more realistic breeding program is breed doe, kindle in 30 days, start weaning babies at 6 weeks, rebreed doe between 7th and 8th week. Wean all babies by 8th week and the doe will have babies again 30 days from the day you bred her.

Can a male have a baby?

There is a theory that a man could carry a baby to term on top of his liver; but it would have to be implanted and medically we are very far away from that theory becoming a reality.

I wouldn't regard them as dangerous ; they can kick in self defence .

When do baby rabbits start hearing?

Although puppies may respond to vibrations they will not begin to hear until about two weeks old. Puppies start to open their eyes at about 10-12 days old.

What to do after a rabbit gives birth?

You can usually tell a rabbit is about to give birth because she will start pulling her hair out to make a nest. You should have provided her with a nesting box. Something that gives her enough room to lay on her side and nurse the babies. Soft hay is preferable bedding and there is usually a slight edge at the entrance where the doe can hop in but will keep the babies inside until they are big enough to start hopping. (You don't want the little blind ones crawling off somewhere.) Give mom access to plenty of water and food and a place where she can get out of the nesting box for breaks. When the babies start opening their eyes and hopping around, let them have access to dry food and water and they will start to eat some and continue to nurse until gradually mom will decide to wean them.

Answer 2:You need to make sure that all the kits are alive. Tap the nestbox, they will think their mother is coming in and will start to squirm. The ones that do not move will probably be dead, pick them up just to be sure. If they are dead you will want to dispose of the body. Also take away all the bloody fur and straw. Within 10 days they will begin to open their eyes. You will need to make sure that they all open and aren't stuck together. You can get a wet rag and try to spread them apart. By two weeks old they will be fully furred. By 6 weeks it will be time to wean them (take them away from their mother.) See the related link below for more info.
