Many Australians like rabbits as pets, but one would hope that the majority of Australians recognise that the wild rabbit, introduced to Australia, is a pest.

The European rabbit has caused an ecological disaster in Australia. Rabbits eat the native vegetation which is the primary food source of Australian native animals. This loss of native food sources has led to the extinction of many Australian mammal species. Rabbits breed much faster than Australia's native animals, so competition for food sources is high. The rabbit has had a large impact on the bilby for another reason as well. Rabbits dig burrows which cause problems for the bilby's habitat, as they tend to cause the bilbies to be caved in.

Further, rabbits tend to eat vegetation right down to the roots, meaning that the plant cannot regrow, and revegetation does not occur. This can certainly lead to indigenous plant species being wiped out, along with the fauna. And because rabbits eat vegetation down to the roots, this means there are fewer low-growing shrubs and grasses to prevent erosion from wind and rain. This in turn leads to increased desertification.

Rabbits have caused huge problems for Australia's agricultural industry, wiping out entire crops. They also eat the food that livestock require, so this impacts on the health of sheep and cattle, especially in more arid areas.

The Mini-lop is smaller than the Dwarf-lop, the ideal weight for a Dwarf is around 4lb 8oz, where the maximum weight for a Mini is approximately 3lb 6oz. Hope this helps! I have both sizes of lops, there is little, but noticeable difference in the size, both are a manageable and handle-able size and enjoy a certain amount of cuddles and petting.

Where are you guys from. In the US there are no dwarf lops. Holland Lops are the smallest - 4# max, Mini lops are 6 1/2# max, Fuzzy Lops are 4# max and English and French Lops have no maximum weight.

If A rabbit is biting in your shoes, it can mean different things. It can bite it, if it think it is food, if the rabbit is scared of the shoe, if it wants to get attention, if it thinks it is another rabbit, or if it wants to "cut down the teeth". If it is the last thing, try giving it a stick from an appletree. Not a peach tree, or those with "nuts" inside, they are poisoning to the rabbit. But pear and appletrees shold be okay. Remember to give your rabbit a stick in about 3 times in a week. Also, if it needs attention, try being more with your rabbit.

It's okay for rabbits to eat artichoke leaves. However, they are very fibrous and can cause digestive problems because of their stringy texture. It is recommended that you cut the leaves into thin, horizontal stripes to break up the fibers before giving them to your rabbit. Also, please make sure there is no butter or other seasonings on the leaves.

Try looking around your local pet shops and find a rabbit leash and collar, and if you cant find one, a small cat, kitten or puppy one will do fine ( but it must go round the neck and waist) Regularilly, tie it to a stick/pole/pipe that is in the ground, and let he/she run around for a bit everyday. But if there are cats/dogs or any other predator you may have to watch them. Try let them run for about 15-30 minutes a day.

The female will probably be missing fur from ripping it out to make a nest, she will be the one to feed the newborns, and she will probably be overprotective of them and the fur in the nest will match her fur color.

All rabbits are very hot in the summer with their coat so whenever they go out of their burrow, they find some shade. Also, they go into there burrows if its to hot even in the shade. Water trickles onto the dirt and sinks in there. That's why its cool down there!

Depends on the shape of the doe. Did she have a hard delivery? Is that why the babies are dead? 2 weeks. Is she in good shape? 2 or 3 days. But first I would try to determine why the babies are dead. Did she have them in the nest box? Are they dead because they were chilled? Did she cover them with fur? Did something disturb her and she stomped them in her panic? If you don't answer these questions the situation will probably repeat itself.

Rabbits like warm weather, but since they can't sweat or pant to cool themselves they do not fare well in Hot Weather. Rabbits cool themselves by circulating blood thru the large blood vessels in their ears. That is why you will not see them out in the sun on a hot day. They look for cool places to spend their days.

They can eat all vegetables except for things in the squash family. They can also eat most fruits, but be careful feeding them tomatoes and grapes/raisins because that gives them diarrhea. Rabbits pellets and hay should make up most of their diet. Oats and yogurt chips can be given as treats.

With a humane trap and some bait, you can catch it, or if you have skill and stealth, you might just be able to catch it yourself. You could probably find a humane trap at a petstore or online for maybe 15-20 dollars. You could also find one at a local vet or pound as well.
