I've never seen a raccoon dig holes, but armadillos are famous for that. I've stopped armadillos by sprinkling blood meal where they dig. I assume it would work for any digger. So animals have several nesting sites for safety from predators. Even predators in the wild will have several sites since, should the mother be out hunting, if the babies are found they would be easy prey for whatever adult animal that happened upon them.

Nothing. They won't attack you and generally will waddle away. They are fun to watch if you get a chance. Just sit there and watch it. Don't try to catch it or pet it or feed it. They do have long claws, nails, and teeth and they are a wild animal.

However none of these live in Australia so the chances are slim.
