The military was largely responsible for the housing booms. When WWII was going on, US citizens from all other states were sent to the coasts for embarking overseas, or for military training, or for SHIPBUILDING. Even today, a 40 year male may be born in CA, but odds are, his parents are from out of state. Because they were from that 1960's crowd. California experienced the BIGGEST housing boom (1940's, 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, then somewhat leveling off in the 80's & 90's, mostly due to "Environmental Laws & Restrictions which effected the construction industry). Next came the rest of the west coast; Oregon & Washington, with Washington the most, because it still has a military base(s) there, which creates jobs and helps to stabilize the economy.

A Yurt is a portable, felt-covered, wood lattice-framed dwelling structure used by nomads in the steppes of Central Asia the word "yurt" comes from russia. the mongols call it a "ger" the wood lattice is called khana and is usually in 3-4-5 separate sections, that are tied together with leather cords. ger have solid doors, usually heavilly carved and painted in bright traditionnal colors. the top ring holding the rafts together is called the toono and is sometimes supported by two poles (sometimes not) highly carved and painted. it is used to get the smoke out of the tent, since the mongols keep a hearth in the middle of the ger. it also serves the purpose of getting out the hot air of the tent in summer. the mongols will raise the lower portion of the felt cover to let cold wind in and this movement will push the hot air out of the tent by the toono. there is also a flap to cover the hole in case of bad weather. the round shape of the ger will allow it to withstand heavy winds, when other building would simply be demolished.

The yurt provided shelter that matched weather and lifestyle of the Mongols quite well.
