Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow bleed brakes?

As a simple answer, if you don't know what you are doing on this system then don't mess with it. These systems used a combined pressure system with a manual backup system (like normal brakes) - some even mix in the ride control (dependent on year, almost all of this class uses a ride control system with the brake system) - and if you do not know exactly what you are doing you can open a high pressure brake line and get some serious injuries.

The manual system (backup system) must be bled with the engine off, the backup pressure reservoir drained and discharged; and it is bled like any other brake system.

The normal system is bled by filling the holding tank, ensuring the backup pressure reservoir is fully pressurized (and full); you then press down and hold the brake peddle and open the bleeder valve (do not pump the peddle, watch the holding tank) until all air is discharged; do this per wheel. The ride control system, which is part of the braking system on most silver shadows, is then bled per wheel at each actuator; you must trigger the activator in order to bleed (do not remove the actuator control rod or mess with the adjustment); the car must be in park and the drivers door open.

You must use Castrol RR363 or Gerling Red brake fluid (for those years), the entire system will hold almost 1/2 to 1 gallon of fluid, but it will take at least twice that to flush the system. Also note that if non compliant brake fluid, or a contaminated system, the pressure seals will get grit in them and the system will fail (so ensure the reservoir is clean).

Rolls-Royce Group PLC's pricing strategy?

Rolls-Royce is like any other large manufacturer of this sort of thing: they negotiate each contract individually. Rolls-Royce used to make three things: jet engines, heavy-duty diesel engines and automobiles. Today they only make jet engines; their diesel engine factory belongs to Perkins Engines, and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars belongs to BMW.

There are a lot of factors that go into a contract. First of course is quantity. It is far less expensive to make a batch of 1000 engines than to make 1000 engines over the course of five years. It costs less to sell 1000 engines to one customer than to sell 1000 engines to forty different people. It's less expensive to deliver 1000 engines to one customer than to deliver them to 40 different customers--if forty people each order 25 engines they'll be delivered on trucks, and you'll need three loads per customer. For a thousand engines I'm calling a railroad. Plus materials costs are lower--again, scale. If I need 100 pounds of titanium per engine I can buy 100,000 pounds of it at one whack cheaper than I can negotiate out the price for 40 different buys.

It would be nice to say "Rolls-Royce's pricing strategy is materials + value added + profit" but in the real world of industrial procurement it rarely works that way.

How much does a Rolls Royce cost?

A new Rolls Royce will cost between $300,000 and $400,000.

A used one from the 70's to 80's ish is in reality quite affordable. Not even the Rolls is immune to depreiciation. About 6k to 10k for a 1970's to 80's silver shadow. 1990's Rolls are still quite expensive. 60s and older Rolls will be 100k plus for one that does not need major restoration, and many owners will not part with their Rolls Royce.

Beware as parts and maintainence will be VERY expensive. Be careful not to go to a garage run by a crook who will wreck your rolls royce, as not many people know how to service them.

If you are an average guy, your best chance at getting one that is affordable is the RR Silver Shadow I and Silver Shadow II (the latter one will be a little bit more money)

Any RR Phantom from any year will be unafforable for the majority of people, and they are VERY rare.

Please do not modify/hot rod/paint it ugly colours on your Rolls Royce. It is meant to be a dignified and elegant car, not a god-awful some pink racing car with flames on the side and fuzzy leopard-pattern upholstery.

A brand new Rolls Royce Phantom is $500,000+. More than you could afford pretty much. a brand new Phantom goes for USD 380.000 to 430.000+ depending on bespoke options, where Rolls Royce will custom make any feature as long as its reasonable.

BHP of Rolls-Royce phantom?

A Rolls Royce Phantom Saloon supplanted with a BMW originated 6.75 liter non-aspirated V-12 engine has an output of slightly over 450 horsepower. Pretty powerful and FAST with a governed maximum speed increased during the 2007 model year to 149 miles per hour. Incidentally, to my knowledge, the fastest production saloon in the world is the Bentley Continental Flying Spur Saloon, supplanted with an aspirated 6.75 liter Volkswagen originated W12 engine (2 little V6 engines melded together) and then supplanted with two twin bi-turbochargers, to give the standard version 550 horsepower. The new limited edition, and thus, rare 2008 Speed Edition has special modifications which yield to 600 horsepower. These cars, whether standard or Speed or the Phantom, are absurdly, yet delightfully throw the back of your head against the headrest while foot on the floor, FAST.

Why did the Rolls-Royce logo change from red to black?

The red logo on the radiator grill means this car was made before Charles Rolls death in a flying accident in 1910

Sorry to debunk this urban myth, and the other one (at least closer in date), that it marked the passing of Henry Royce in 1933; The answer (and I have this from the Rolls-Royce Heritage Centre - my sons were doing a school project) is that the logo changed in 1932 to the more neutral black colour, to avoid clashing with the latest car bodywork colour schemes

Where can you purchase a rack and pinion for a Rolls-Royce silver wraith 2?

Remove your rack and pinion, send it to a rebuilder, jobber, and they will easily be able to rebuild it and return it to you. This would be by far the most cost effective. Consider having an experienced GM mechanic and or a large volume parts supplier look at it. I bet they would tell you that it is somewhat common and it may be GM.

Who can buy a Rolls-Royce car?

The car is not sold just to those who wish to buy it. There is a process where it is decided if the person wishing to buy it is fit enough to be its owner or not and money is not just the criteria. The company carries out a complete profile check of the person who shows interest in owning a Rolls Royce. The person's entire profile, social standing for the past few years is put under scanner and then decided. Even test drives are given to selected people.

Notable people who own Rolls Royce include : late Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, John Lennon, David Beckham to name a few. Few Indians in the list include Actor Sanjay Dutt who gifted his wife Manyata a 'Rolls Royce Ghost' and Vidhu Vinod Chopra who gifted Amitabh Bachchan with 'Rolls Royce Phantom'.

A notable and an interesting fact about an Indian Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala, about how he was refused by the company. Reacting to the refusal, the Maharaja ordered new Rolls Royce cars and put them to hauling garbage, dung and filth in Patiala city to the chagrin of the all-powerful Rolls Royce-loving Viceroy and the British ruling establishment who quickly prevailed upon the Rolls Royce Company to comply with the Maharaja's wishes.
