There are two kinds of rafts.
One is an inflatable plastic raft that you fill with air.
However, the more historical meaning of raft is a humanly constructed platform which floats. People normally cut down trees to use logs, because logs float. They needed to tie the logs together with vines, twine, or rope. If tied correctly, the platform of logs would float long enough to cross a river, for example.
It can also be the source of a great story. My friends and I had quite possibly the best trip down river ever when we built a homemade raft. Check out the link How to Build a Raft-How to Make a Homemade Raft in the related links section to read about my story.

Life-rafts usually have a rope around the edge to enable those who can't fit inside to keep close to the craft - to assist in their rescue. If the life-raft is inverted - climb on top of it and grab hold of the rope. Then - lean backwards to overbalance it - the craft will flip over (unfortunately, you will get wet !)

Moab, UT is a great site to visit. Until the 1950’s Moab did not have much to offer. Charlie Steen discovered uranium there and the town has grown very quickly since that time. In Moab, UT there are numerous tours that one could take to see the sights. A few of those are Moad Adventure Center, Dan Mick’s Guided Jeep Tours, Highpoint Hummer and ATV Tours, and RIM Tours.
Another popular sight in Moab, UT is the Sauropod Dinosaur Tracksite. This phenomenon is not a common occurrence. Usually while fossils and bones may be found, tracks are usually not. There are also water parks and theme parks as well as motorcycle tours. Another popular thing to do in Moab, UT is whitewater rafting. Tours are available using whitewater rafting or a person can rent a whitewater raft and take their own tour.
Moab, UT is not a beautiful town but it hides many beautiful things below its surface.
If you are looking to make a homemade raft there are a few important details you must consider before beginning to build it. The raft must be light, sturdy and sufficiently buoyant. These characteristics appear easy enough. But I learned many valuable lessons when I tried to build a homemade raft of my own.
Check out my page How to Build a Raft-How to Make a Homemade Raft on Hubpages for my information about my experience. (see link in 'related links' section below)
