How do you pass a rugby ball in rugby union?

well it is hard to explain but ill try.

its where the team trys to change the direction of play e.g if the ball is being passed out left and they want to go right they will use a switch pass, the player with the ball runs at a slight angle to the left and the receiver runs at a slight angle to the right and their paths should cross but the player with the ball is slightly ahead, turns his torso to the left and pops the ball at the receiver who is running in a different direction. look at this the path of the receiver is R and the player with the ball is B, where they cross is C.

......B......R

.......Z...R

.........C

......X....B

....R........B

..R............B

R ...............B

(IGNORE THE DOTS) the Z represents when the player with the ball passes and the X represents where the receiver catches it.

hope this helps and this was the easiest way i could demonstrate it to you i hope this clears things up

In Rugby League how many points are awarded for a try?

This information is somewhat complicated as its reported that many schools played a version of the Rugby Schools Game - This had no limits on the amount of players on each side and some reports indicate that a "try" was not a scoring situation - When the ball was placed down in what we know to be the "in goal area" it allowed a kick to be taken at the goal posts - it was this that scored a goal similar to that of the soccer version. This was the scoring system

When and where did NRL originate?

NRLwas first played in Australia in 1908, after working-class rugby union players, dissatisfied with the restrictive old English game, struck out and forged the young nation's first professional football code.

Within barely three seasons, the 13-man form of rugby became the favourite winter sport of NSW and Queensland -- a position rugby league continues to hold today.

For a century the clubs have been the heart-and-soul of the game, with tribal loyalties feeding the veracious rivalries that drive the footballers and fans alike into their weekend winter battles. Winning the season's premiership is all that matters.

Rugby league footballers have traditionally enthralled spectators with a combination of raw bone-breaking toughness, together with exhilarating movement of the ball from man-to-man.

Unlike in most other sports, rugby league footballers are given free reign on the field to make the game their own in the pursuit of victory, whether via individual moments of brilliance, or in combination with their team mates.

How many miles does a rugby player run in a game?

about 1 mile at most, the average NFL game has only about 11 mins of actual playing time, thery have 3 seperate teams that play throughout the game the offense, the defense and the special teams, so most players are on the field only for 5 mins and they're not the fittest people out there

How did rugby union first start?

The game evolved from Football (now called soccer as well) In 1823 William Web Ellis was playing the game at his school. In those days hadling the ball was allowed but the rules of football required the player carring the ball to retire backward to make a pass to a team mate. They could not run forward with that ball. Web Ellis picked up the ball in such a game and ran forward toward the opposing goals. The games played after this at the school and then in ubiversities found people running with the ball in hand. Then in October 26th 1863 the formation of the Football Association occured and rules of play were developed. This removed handling the ball and hacking, hacking was basically kicking the legs from under a player with the ball. Because of the handling rule change. Meeting were hald with clubs who fought against the removal of the ball carrying idea. By the sixth meeting, a schism had clearly arisen and the 11 Rugby clubs, led by Blackheath, declined to join the Football Association. The Birth of Rugby now occured with the 11 teams forming the Rugby Football Union".

The team Rugby Football Union stayed in place and is still used today .

How do you throw a rugby ball?

5 basic ways

Place kick - for kicking for goal/penalty goal.

Ball is ideally placed in a cup (ball holder) with the points vertical (points up and down) The ball is the tipped forward slightly in the direction of kick. The lace holes should be facing forward if the ball has a laces. This stops the boot hitting the lace and the ball shooting off in different directions. The ball is then kicked with the front of the boot (not the toe cap)

From hand - grubber kick. The ball is dropped to the boot with the points of the ball vertical as in the placed penalty kick but the top point is closer to the body so that the kick makes contact just above the point closest to the ground. This causes the ball the bounce on its its which for he opposing catcher is more difficult to make contact and can bounce randomly again making catching more difficult.

From hand - Drop kick The ball is again dropped point first. As the ball makes contact with the ground it is struck with the boot - Use from restarts and drop goals

From hand - kick to touch - Normally used as a penalty the kick is used to gain ground. The ball is held and release just as the kick is made. The ball is normally at knee height when it connects with the boot. The ball is pointing forward at approximately 45 degrees to the players body. The boot hits the ball just off the center line and beneath. This cause the ball to spin through the air similar to a torpedo ( its also known as a torpedo kick). The spin of the ball reduces the air resistance making it travel further.

Kick from hand -The punt. The ball is held by the points and dropped to the kicking boot. The ball with normally gain height rather than distance. It the effect is a "kick and chase" where the opposing team will try and catch the ball whilst the chaser will also attempt to catch the ball. By the chase making the catch it means they are running forward and toward the goal line - The forward momentum is used to make a positive attack on the opposing teams defense. How do you play rugby league?

Rugby union is a game for two teams of 15 players to play. There are many rules to the game so i suggest you look them up if your interested. the main ones are:

Hold the balls in your hands,

Pass it backwards

During the game you may kick the ball, there are rules conserning this and i can't be bothered to explain.

Tackling, to perform an effective tackle you must wrap your arms around the opposition's legs, just above knee height, and hold on until they fall over. tackling above the hips has it's uses but is more difficult and less effective. You can tackle anyone above shoulder height.

The team

the team consists of 8 forwards and 7 backs.

the forwards are aranged with the two biggest on either side of another reasonably big person. these are called props (either side) and a hooker in the middle (its not what you think)

Then there are two taller than average and well built people behind them these are called the second row.

Then the back row consists of two flankers and one number 8.

the backs are 1 scrum half, 1 fly half, 1 inside centre, 1 outside centre, 2 wings, and 1 full back.

The game it's self is mainly people from either side trying to score trys (5 points) drop goals and penelties (3 points) and conversions (taken after a try is scored 2 points).

This is done by the team with the ball running at the the team without the ball with a number of rucks (where each team compets for the ball on the floor) and mauls (each team trys to get the ball of the other when its off the ground).

im afraid that i cannot answer this question for rugby legue as i don't play it, and don't know much about it.
