How do you pass a rugby ball in rugby union?
well it is hard to explain but ill try.
its where the team trys to change the direction of play e.g if the ball is being passed out left and they want to go right they will use a switch pass, the player with the ball runs at a slight angle to the left and the receiver runs at a slight angle to the right and their paths should cross but the player with the ball is slightly ahead, turns his torso to the left and pops the ball at the receiver who is running in a different direction. look at this the path of the receiver is R and the player with the ball is B, where they cross is C.
......B......R
.......Z...R
.........C
......X....B
....R........B
..R............B
R ...............B
(IGNORE THE DOTS) the Z represents when the player with the ball passes and the X represents where the receiver catches it.
hope this helps and this was the easiest way i could demonstrate it to you i hope this clears things up

What are the Physical effects of rugby on the body?
It you are talking pressure as in stress -- yes . Like all occupations a play is expected to perform for the 80 minutes they are on the pitch. When doing well players react well because their mood is high. When games are being lost pressure is brought on by the potential of being dropped, take out of the squad, replaced or in some instances transferred or plain sacked.
When that pressure is on the player can lose focus on the job in hand and try to "go it alone". This means that team mates see mistakes, passes not ,ade, essential kicks being missed as the concentration move from the game to the "what if I dont get this done,".
Average weight for a football player?
260
In the very early days of football it was rare to see a lineman that weighed over 250 pounds. But as training regiments became more sophisticated the weights have risen. Hall of Fame offensive guard Gene Upshaw, who played between 1967-1981, weighed 255 pounds. Hall of Fame defensive end Gino Marchetti, who played between 1952-1966, weighed 245 pounds. Today's linemen almost always weigh at least 280 pounds and many weigh over 300 pounds.

This information is somewhat complicated as its reported that many schools played a version of the Rugby Schools Game - This had no limits on the amount of players on each side and some reports indicate that a "try" was not a scoring situation - When the ball was placed down in what we know to be the "in goal area" it allowed a kick to be taken at the goal posts - it was this that scored a goal similar to that of the soccer version. This was the scoring system

What year was rugby first played in?
The actual start of rugby union is difficult to define. This is because the emryonic start was in 1823, during a game of soccer at Rugby School in England, 16 year old William Webb Ellis picked up the ball and ran with it towards his opponents' goal line.
However, by the 1840s running with the ball had become the norm in the new game format, and by the 1870s rugby clubs had sprung up all over the UK and in the colonies. But different rules were being used by different clubs, and a meeting was held in January 1871, attended by representatives of 22 clubs, to resolve the situation. It was at this meeting that the Rugby Football Union was founded.
The meeting on 26 of January 1871 was initiated by Edwin Ash, Secretary of Richmond Club, who submitted a letter to the newspapers which read: "Those who play the rugby-type game should meet to form a code of practice as various clubs play to rules which differ from others, which makes the game difficult to play".
Along with the founding of the Rugby Football Union a committee was formed, and three ex-Rugby School pupils, all lawyers, were invited to formulate a set of rules. This task was completed and approved by June 1871. So technically the Rugby Football Union which started June 1871 as the name of the game and the rules which form the basis of the ones now in existence was born.

Distinctive features common to both rugby codes (league and union) include the prolate spheroid ball and the ban on passing the ball forward, so that players can gain ground only by running with the ball or by kicking it. As the sport of rugby league moved further away from its union counterpart, rule changes were implemented with the aim of making a faster-paced, more try-oriented game, in the hope of increasing attendances at games.
Today, the main differences between the two games, besides league having teams of 13 players and union of 15, involve the tackle and its aftermath:
Set pieces of the union code include the scrum, where packs of opposing players push against each other for possession, and the lineout, where parallel lines of players from each team, arranged perpendicular to the touch-line (the side line) attempt to catch the ball thrown from touch (the area behind the touch-line).
In the league code, the scrum still exists, but with greatly reduced importance. Set pieces are generally started from the play-the-ball situation. Many of the rugby league positions have similar names and requirements to rugby union positions but there are no flankers in rugby league. The result of these variations have led to rugby union being considered a traditional form of rugby.
Its like football but without pads and you use a soccer type ball.
