Has anyone ever walked the entire Sahara desert If so how many And has anyone ever done it completely solo with no backup team?

The first to do so from west to east were Michael Asher and Mariantonietta Peru, in 1986. The first north to south trek was made by Friedrich Gerhard Rohlfs, a journey that took from 1865 to 1867. None of the crossings were made entirely on foot; the enormous distance and very rough terrain would make that prohibitive. Rohlfs traveled mostly on camel and thatalready took two years; the fairly recent west to east trek was made partly on foot, partly on camel.

No-one has ever done it completely solo without backup, because that would amount to suicide. The food and drink alone that you would have to take along, apart from all the other necessary equipment would make it it totally impossible.
