The Meadowlands opened in 1976. For the 1975 season, the Giants shared Shea Stadium with the New York Jets. Prior to that they played the 1974 home season and the final six home games of the 1973 season at the Yale Bowl in New Haven, Connecticut. Between 1956 and the first two home games of the 1973 season the Giants home was Yankee Stadium. The first 31 years of the franchise (1925-1955), the Giants called the Polo Grounds home.

He was the Giants' field general when they won the 2012 World Series, sweeping the Detroit Tigers in four games. The Giants also won the 2014 World Series in seven games over the Kansas City Royals, making Bochy one of only 10 managers in history to win at least three world championships. The other nine are in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

On June 26, 2016, Bochy won his 800th game as the Giants' manager. He trails only John McGraw (2,583) and Dusty Baker (840) for most wins in the history of the New York/San Francisco Giants franchise. On September 3, 2016, he supplanted Bill Terry for third place with 824 wins. Through the 2016 regular season, Bochy was the winningest active manager in Major League Baseball with an overall record of 1,789-1,757. He is in 15th place all time for most managerial wins.
