I do not think they wore uniforms. I'm not sure at all though and I have nothing to back it up with, so definitely don't take this as an absolute answer.

Some reasons why you need uniforms in school are to appear more intelligent, represent the school in a positive way, and lessen bullying, fights, and arguments from not having the latest fashion. You can also tell who students from intruders who do not attend the school easily.

There not really ,i mean come on there ugly ,but people won't make fun of you because there wering the same thing wearing school uniforms is a way to not get made fun of or laughed at because you dont have as much money as someone else. but if you really think about it wearing school uniforms is a way to show school spirit and show you have respect for that school

I think that school uniforms help schools and students because if there are no school uniforms, kids that are not that wealthy would find it hard keeping up with the new fashion trends which could lead to bullying. It also helps the schools because they have less problems to deal with like bullying. It also makes the school look more presentable.

Its sorta 50/50 though, many people would hate them and not many people actually care about fashion and plus not many people would bully someone for that reason.

Bruntcliffe Shool Uniform is navy blue with yellow on the logo, which represent the Leedes colours. They wear a light blue + dark blue clip on tie with a white shirt. If you were in Yr8 or higher, you would have the option of a shirt, jumper and tie or just a plain navy blue polo shirt with the Bruntcliffe logo on it. You must NOT wear a jumper wiuth the polo shirt!

Of course people had uniforms in the 1950s actually they wore really wierd things like.

The little boys wore grey shorts and long socks- also grey all year round. The little girls wore dresses or a pinafore dresses which are-DUH- still worn today and blouses. The school cap and beret were de riguer- whatever that means-

Some people would wear a vest, liberty bodice, blouse, pinafore dress, jumper and a rain coat.

Not exactly bad but uniforms are a lot of money you go to school to learn not to look smart it's just like wearing own clothes but then trying to look smart at the same time. If you agree tell me :)

I agree with 'Wiki User'. and would add:-

1. The uniform gives an 'esprit de corps', that is you belong there and like it there. Put commonly it's 'your gang'.

2. Wearing a school uniform teaches you that in the 'big wide world', there are lots of jobs/careers that require you to wear a uniform; the military, the police, medicine, banking to name but a few. So when you leave school wearing a uniform for work does not feel odd/incorrect. It the 'gangs uniform'.

So smarten-up, knot your tie, button your jacket, polish your shoes.

The most typical and usual style of school uniforms in the Victorian-era would be a plaid/solid colored dress with a white pinafore over it and some other styles notable as school uniforms in the Victorian-era were sailor style (sailor style was also common as daily wear). School uniforms in Asia adapted the sailor style from the Victorians. Do not listen to whoever said "black dress with a white pinafore over it". The white pinafore part is true, but there would not be a black dress and specifically that combination would be servant-wear.
