What is mild levoconvex scoliosis of the mid lumbar spine?

Curvature of the vertebral column resulting from the column turning on its axis.

The upper two vertebrae in the cervical spine, the atlas and the axis, differ from the other vertebrae because they are designed specifically for rotation. These two vertebrae are the reason your neck can move in so many directions.

Mid Spine = Thoracic

Lumbar Spine = Below the Thoracic vertebraes - your lumbar spine consists of 5 discs/vertebrae.

Are there scholarships for students with scoliosis?

Whether there are federal grants available for students with scoliosis depends on the extent of the disability from the condition. If the student receives disability for the condition it could increase the chances.

How dangerous is scoliosis?

It can be dangerous to have a levoscoliosis. They are considered more dangerous than a dextro curve due to their possible involvement with te heart. The heart lies more on the left side of your thoracic cavity and thus a left curve causes more of a complication.

Can you play sports if you have scoliosis?

Yes, of course. You may wish to choose a profession that does not require heavy lifting or sitting/standing in the same position all day long.

I have had Scoliosis for 20 years and I work from home as a result of the disability, but I work full time without too many issues.

Choose your work wisely :)

What famous person had scoliosis?

no realy famous celebrities have it

some french athlete person has it and that loraine woman from the last series of the aprentice that's about all i know of

not very interesting really

actually, some famous people DO have scoliosis, the person who wrote that is wrong.

-Sarah Michelle Gellar (actor eg Buffy the vampire slayer, model)

-Tutankhamun (pharaoh of ancient Egypt)

-John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten, lead singer of the sex pistols and other bands)

-Kurt Cobain (lead singer of Nirvana)

and lots of other people, i would suggest you look it up on Google or something, they are bound to have something.

What is disc bulge?

It's a bulge in a spinal disk at a specific point. Usually the result of injury or lifting too much or improperly. A disk bulge can often heal given time and a little common sense. Minor disk injury is common and often we don't even notice unless it starts to push on the spinal column and pinch a nerve. However it can cause inflamation and muscle spasms that can result in incredible pain. Typically, the disk doesn't actually hurt, it's the body's attempt to keep the spine aligned and take pressure from the injured disk that ends up being painful. Muscles will be contracted to take pressure off the inflamed area, resulting in muscle spasm and that's where the pain usually comes from. Take it easy and follow your doctors recommendation and it will get better. Also, slowly build strength and flexibility in the back muscles to minimize the pain from the spasms. You doctor probably gave you some flexibility and strengthening exercises... follow them.

How serious is scoliosis?

It all depends on the degree of your curve, I had around an 85 degree curve, and had to have surgery. but it could be smaller, and you wouldn't have to do anything about it.

How old is too old to have surgery for Scoliosis?

They perfer it when you are in your teens, but tons of adults also have it done.

In what ways do kyphosis scoliosis and lordosis differ from each other?

Lordosis is the flattening of the natural curve in the lumbar spine, or "flat back." That natural curve is the slight S shape that you see in someone's back when they stand sideways or lie down on their stomachs.

Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine. With scoliosis, the vertebrae make an S or C shape when viewed head-on.

What is rotatory levoconvex scoliosis of the thoracolumbar spine?

Scoliosis refers to a curvature of the spine when looking at it from the front or the back (A to P, or P to A). This is very important, because the spine has normal curvatures when viewed from the side. The term scoliosis is used even when the curvature is mild.

Normally a spine is straight when you look at it from front to back. It runs in the same direction that a necktie does.

This particular curve, a levoconvex scoliosis of the thoracolumbar spine, runs from the low back area, maybe from the area where your belt would cross your low back (or lumbar spine) up to the mid-back, which is the area of your back that have ribs (or thoracic spine).

The term rotatory means that the vertebrae making up this curvature are rotated so that their spinous processes are pointed towards the concavity, which is the right side in this case.

Obviously, this question is regarding a radiology report, otherwise the term "rotatory" would not likely have been used. Hopefully, these x-rays were taken while the patient was standing (weight bearing films), otherwise they will not accurately depict the true curvature. Basically, films taken to assess/measure a scoliosis need to be taken with the patient standing up evenly on both feet.

Can scoliosis make you get shorter?

Scoliosis is a descriptive term for a curvature in the spine, depending on the level of the curve could mean you are shorter as a result., For example, the surgery I had meant I grew 5 inches in the 7 hours I was being straightened

So I think yes it can prevent you from getting taller but only in the sense of the shape of the curve and its position and size

How long does it take for herniated lumber disc to heal?

This would depend on a variety of factors. Is the disc protruding, extruding or completely sequestered? Other factors would be age and other health factors that would inhibit healing. Other considerations would be conservative vs surgical treatment for the condition. The best case scenario, a protruding disk that is managed by conservative treatment, (anti-iflammitory medication/physical therapy) would resolve in several weeks. The worst case, a sequestered disk that needs surgery might take several months/years to resolve depending on the extent of spinal chord/nerve impact. in some cases, due to degenerative disc disease, and the nature of disc material itself (lumbar discs are made up primarily of two types of cartilage-like proteins that are not readily able to heal themselves like other tissue) the disc herniation will not heal itself without surgical intervention. It should be noted that surgical options such as selective microscopic-discectomy have improved healing times for disc herniation significantly. In any surgical case, a thorough discussion with an orthopedist is essential. Traditional surgery for herniated lumbar discs completley and permanently sever some tendon/conective tissue - but generally has success relieving pain initially. Microdiscectomy has a lower rate of successfully eliminating pain in some studies, and has been studied less than traditional discectomy. Ten-year success rates for discectomy patients of both types of surgery is lower than 75% in most accepted studies - as pain/discomfort often returns over time.

What are facts about scoliosis?

I have two. 1. Your spine stops curving when you stop growing
2. It does not cause pain itself:)

  • You're 20% more likely to develop scoliosis if someone else in your family also has scoliosis.
  • In 80% of scoliosis cases, the cause is unknown-that's known as idiopathic scoliosis.
  • Scoliosis is usually painless.
  • Girls are at least four times as likely to develop scoliosis as boys?and doctors don't know why that is.
  • 96% of adolescents with scoliosis continue to play sports.

Does scoliosis take away flexibilty?

Unfortunately, it does. Sometimes you'll find that certain positions may be slightly uncomfortable, as with sports or other activities. I had the surgery a few years back, and I do still have to be careful, but things are less uncomfortable now. I can't go doing any kind of gymnastics or anything though. I definitely don't have that sort of flexibility, but running and skiing and stuff is fine.

There is mild scoliosis of dorsal spine with convexity to left?

treatment for mild scoliosis of cervico dorsal spine with convexity towards left side

Can you join the National Guard with scoliosis?

yes it is a possiblity but there are regulations as with everything else in the army. If the degree is less than 20 or if you had two or less vertabre fused you are okay to try. anything more you will be dq'ed.

Is it bad to play rugby and other sports with scoliosis and muscle spasm's in you back?

As Rugby is a high impact sport playing with ANY skeletal issue is inadvisable. Its more so where the back is effected. There are sports that this type of issue will not effect the performance of the person - I suggest seeking expert advice

'What does it mean when the MRI comes back with C5-C6 and C6-C7 disc osteophytic complex with some narrowing of the left lateral recesses at these two levels?

From what I see in your question, you're talking about the bones in your neck called cervical bones. For the #'s you gave, it would mean there's narrowing or lack of a gap between cervical #5 thru cervical #7. (5-6-7) That's most of the way up from the base of the neck on the backside. Narrowing of spaces where there's usually gaps is caused by wear & tear and aging usually and when the cushions between the bones are shrinking from wearing down or the aging process the consequence is narrowing. In this case on the left sides of C5 thru C7.

Is scoliosis a physical disability?

None of the above.

Autism is a neurological difference that you either are or are not - how it affects you can be mild, moderate or severe but this can change throughout your life. Autism is known as Autism Spectrum Disorder but this assumes that Neurotypical is the norm and Autism is a fault in a brain that was supposed to be Neurotypical, many people find this offensive and instead insist it is a variation in brains (like race is a variation in skin colour and physical characteristics) not a disorder.

Autism itself also isn't a disability, a person with autism may be disabled by their autism or by other people's prejudice or lack of support of their differences, but in itself Autism is not a disability - not all autistic people are disabled by autism.

What is moderate bilateral facet arthropathy?

This sounds like a diagnosis someone discovered on a medical report.

Mild is a rather obvious term, meaning only slight and perhaps the early phase of a problem.

Bilateral means on both sides or opposite sides of a part of the body, usually meaning on the right and left side of the body.

Facet refers to the joint or articulation where two parts of the spine connect at the back part of the spinal column. A facet joint is a small structure that acts like a hinge or point of contact between two connecting spinal bones (vertebrae) to offer support while still allowing movement in the spine.

Osteoarthropathy is a term meaning early osteoarthritis, in which it is suspected that early joint cartilage softening and breakdown has occurred, with possible slight or mild bone changes that are typical of arthritis.

Overall, the term means a doctor believes that someone has early osteoarthritis in the facet joints in an unidentified part of the spine, probably causing mild to moderate and occasional spinal pain and reduced movement when aggravated by excess movement or standing.

What causes rapid onset of adult scoliosis?

Congenital scoliosis is due to congenital abnormal formation of the bones of the spine, and is often associated with other organ defects.

What is levoscoliosis with DJD in lower lumbar spine?

It is a type of Scoliosis where the convexity is on the bottom left side of your back.

Can i play Golf with scoliosis?

Yes and no, if you do not have a 'full' corrective surgery ,thoracic and lumbar, than you are able to regain all mobility and flexibility, thus able to play sports. If you do have the rods put throughout the length of your spine you will likely never to be able to play sports to the extent of when you did not have surgery.

If you did not have (or plan getting) surgery you should be able to do whatever you want depending on the severity of your curve (1 degree-50 degrees should have no effect on your mobility/flexibility/or bodily functions).

What is right paracentral disc protrusion at T8-T9 and T7-T8?

This means that the spinal disc ("shock absorber" between the vertebrae) is protruding (bulging) on the left into the area where the peripheral spinal nerve leaves the spinal cord (neural foramen). If the disc compresses (impinges) the spinal nerve in the neural foramen, there can be symptoms that radiate into the extremities. If the nerve impingement is in the neck, then symptoms are usually felt in the shoulder blade area and arm. In the low back, the symptoms can be felt in the buttock and back of the thigh ("sciatica") and even the entire leg and foot.

What is cervical scoliosis?

a slight curvature of the spine near the neck
