I think seismology is a Masters Degree program, so you would first have to earn a Bachelors Degree which normally takes four years and then two more years for a Masters so becoming a Seismologist takes 6 years of college.

Scientists find out information on the core by using special tools to dig out samples from deep inside the earth. Special instruments "look inside" parts of the earth we cannot see.
How strong can an earthquak be?
An earthquake is measured on a Richter (sorry if I spelled that Richter part wrong) scale, each time it goes up, say 1 - 2 it is 10x larger and 32x stronger, recent earthquakes have been getting 7.0 - 8.0 and have been destroying major cities but no 10 has ever been recorded so it isn't possible to know for sure what is the most damage possible but it would be very devastating.
