John Burges Watson (b.1803 near Kingston in Surrey, d. 1881) was an architect. His best-known design was the Duck House in St James' Park, built for the Ornithological Society of London in 1840.

The climax is when the lurid spark of a lantern shone through the newly opened crack in the flagstones of the bank vault floor then a white, womanly hand appeared in the opening and withdrew as suddenly as it had appeared. Next two men climbed out of the hole, and Holmes sprung out and seized one of the intruders by the collar.

The story starts when a man drops dead in the moors. A beggar tries to rob him. Holmes is told of an almost identical murder. They follow Mortimor and Henry Baskerville out so that nothing happens to him. Holmes and Watson find a man pointing a gun in a nearby cab and warn Henry. Watson and Henry later go out to the moors when they see a butler that looks like the gunman in the cab. He has a candle and is waving it about. Watson asks him of his actions. The butler disappears. They see a distant light that looks like a candle. They go out to the moors and find a lit candle in a stone cave. The beggar in the beginning of the story is spying on them.

Professor James Moriarty is a fictional character and the archenemy of the detective Sherlock Holmes in the fiction of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Widely considered to be the first true example of a supervillain, Moriarty is a criminal mastermind, described by Holmes as the "Napoleon of Crime" and he is also the primary antagonist of the the entire franchise. Doyle lifted the phrase from a real Scotland Yard inspector who was referring to Adam Worth, a real life model for Moriarty.
Professor Moriarty was Sherlock Holmes' nemesis. The only enemy that he could not beat. They were described as equals in skill and wits.

It was during a major social change in Britain while Britain itself was becoming a world economic power and growing suburbs- plus a growing crime rate.

He was the dead uncle of Sir Henry Baskerville. Sir Henry had been living in Canada, and he had been summoned to London as he was to inherit the Baskerville estate valued at 740 thousand pounds (well over 10 million pounds today).

Because, Sherlock is like the expert at solving crimes.

Dr. Mortimer was one of the principle players in "The Hound of the Baskervilles", whose walking stick was found and shown to Holmes, who was able to deduce much about the man before seeing him. Mortimer needed help with addressing "The Baskerville Curse". :}

Professor James Moriarty. a retired mathematics professor, Holmes refers to him as "the Napoleon of crime." In the case, "The Final Problem" found in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, Holmes takes on this criminal mastermind in a battle of wits and physical prowess that ultimately ends in the apparent death of both in Reichenbach Falls.

In a way, Holmes respects Moriarty's intelligence of criminology and shrewedness. But all the same, he despises him because he is a criminal and also like him for setting a challenge for him every time. Think of those two as two nerdy rivals in class. They both hate and like each other.
