My bet is that you are out of luck on this question. The bible for looking up info. on old shotguns is Bob Hinman's "The Golder Age of Shotgunning" and all he has to say about F. A. Loomis is "Hammer 12 guage, laminated barrels. No proof marks. nothing further known".

My bible is Charles Carder's "Sides By Sides Of The World For Y2K", and it says Loomis was likely a dealer (maybe in Connecticut) for whom guns were made by Crescent Arms Co of New York. Much longer entry for Crescent. Guns were both laminated barrels and steel. Locks were both outside hammer, and hammerless. I have one, steel barrels, outside hammers, wish I knew what the numbers meant (mine is 13) and what in heck is I.X.L.?

The value of a Mossberg New Haven bolt-action 12 gauge shotgun actually depends on a couple things. Most important would be the condition of the shotgun.

Ohio Valley Arms shotguns were called trade name shotguns and were made by Crescent Arms. Crescent arms made guns from 1892 to 1931 and would put anyones company name on the gun if they purchased at least 12 of them and paid for the die with their name on it.

As far as I know you have to be at least 18 to buy a gun. That's what it was several years ago anyway, don't know if it has changed now.

The maverick 88 is the mossbergs cheaper pump action option, there are three maverick 88 models

#1 is a 5+1 shot pump action with an 18 1/2 barrel and has a cylinder bore, (no chokes) chambered for 2 1/2 and 3 inch shells.

#2 is a 5+1 shot pump action with a 28" barrel and has interchokes, chambered for 2 3/4" and 3" shells

#3 is a 7+1 shot pump action with a 20" barrel, i am not 100% sure but i think these barrels are Cylinder and cannot change chokes, also chambered for 2 3/4" and 3" shells.

The answer can be found in "Spanish Treasure" by Terry Wieland. According to this guide, the gun #524948 was produced between 1978 - 1983. Your gun will have a date code stamped on the barrel flats. To determine the exact year of manufacture here is a list of the codes: 1978 - X1, 1979 - Y1, 1980 - Z1, 1981 - A2, 1982 - B2, 1983 - C2
