The Model 5000 was the first 12 gage made using the case hardend steal receiver. It had steal that looked like a rainbow and most look as goos today as the day it was produced. They were first produced around 1921. It was later changed to the 5100 in 1931 and then to the 311 after WWII and was produced mostly un-changed untill around 1989. The older 5000 models are harder to find as would be expected for a 90 year old gun. Some online auctions you may run across one for as little as $200-300 for people that don't know what they have. Most blue book and shooters bibles don't even list them anymore. Someone wanting their grandfathers reliable shotgun should expect to pay $2000-$4000 for one in very good condition.
