How does singing from the diaphragm instead of the throat help improve the voice quality of a singer?

Keeping your diaphragm flexed and using it to regulate your output adds a measure (no pun intended) of control and power to your singing that is obvious to an audience with a good ear. I've seen many YouTube videos of average people singing, and while there are many people who can sing in tune, almost everyone I've seen sounds like the music is just falling out of their mouths, like a bullet that has just enough powder to get it to the end of the barrel, so when it leaves the barrel it falls straight to the ground.

How do you keep from losing your singing voice when you know you won't be able to sing for a while?

Okay, I asked this question but I'm still learning how to work this site. I don't know how to go back in and edit my question and I need to because I think I need to clarify.

I'm going to go see family for about a month. I have a feeling I won't be able to do much singing in this time period. Normally I wouldn't worry, but recently I went about two or three weeks without singing at all and I lost a lot of the control I had of my voice as well as some of the strength I'd had while singing higher notes. I worked hard and was able to regain both abilities, but know that I'm not going to be singing for all this time, I'm worried it'll have an even worse effect on me. Unless it was all in my head, I don't know. Singing means a lot to me as I want to major in musical theater and minor in voice (if that's a minor, I actually haven't checked) and then go on to be a performer, hopefully on Broadway.

This really means a lot to me so any advice you have would be great, thanks.

I'm having a very similar issue to your own right now. I recently spent 2 weeks at the beach for a family reunion, and wasn't able to sing full-voice, or even half voice very often. I'm not sure if that caused this, but on the last morning, I woke up without a voice, even though I had only sung one song at a talent show the nigh before. I hadn't warmed up, and I didn't feel any strain, but I may have shocked my vocal chords or something from the sudden activity after two weeks of inactivity. It's kind of like when you stop exercising for a while, and you can't just jump into your normal routine again. You have to work your way up to it. Plus I was constantly going outside in blistering heat to inside with arctic temperatures, which effects the voice. I lost my voice a week from yesterday, and I have almost all of it back, except for my high belt (belt above Eb). I would suggest that throughout your trip, you continue using your voice. Hum, sing quietly, do soft vocal exercises, and sing full voice when you get a chance (in the bathroom, in the car, etc.) Also when you get home and get the chance to really sing for the first time, warm up a substantial amount so as not to shock them like I may have. I'm not a vocal teacher so I may be way off, but I also hope to be a performer! Good luck!!!

How deos singing from the diapram instead of the throat help improve the voice quality of a singir?

It allows greater control over your voice, greater support, so that the breathing is effective, so that the sound is strong rather than weak, controlled rather than pathetic and lost. Even when singing quietly you have to have that support there to allow that control and resonance.

What singers sing in the key of A?

Any singer might sing in any key at one time or another. What matters is having a particular song in a key that allows the range (low to high notes of the song) to fit into your vocal range.

Some songs have the root (A if in the key of A, for example; also known as do of the do-re-mi scale) around the middle of the range of the song. Other songs have the root on a low and high octave with most of the notes somewhere in between.

I happen to be looking right now at an arrangement of "Happy Trails" that is in G, but the range goes from Middle D to high D (a fourth under the root to a fifth above). And I have an arrangement of "Unfortunate Miss Baily" in D that also goes from Middle D to high D (root on the low octave to the root on the upper octave).

So you might easily sing "Happy Trails" in A, a step higher that this copy, going from Middle E to High E. But to sing "Unfortunate Miss Baily" in A, you would be going from A to A. If you are an alto you could go from the A below Middle C to the A above. If you are a soprano and the low A is too low, the other option is to go from the A an octave higher up to the a that is a ledge line above the treble clef (in other words, really high).
