It is a snowboard where the tip and tail are exactly the same width. This is the most common shape of a snowboard. There are two types of twin boards- a true twin and a directional twin. A true twin means the board is 100% symmetrical. The stance is centered, the flex is even, and the sidecut is radial. This is the shape you find mostly on freestyle boards. A directional twin has twin tips and sometimes a centered stance, but the flex is directional and/or the sidecut is progressive. This is the most versatile shape and is commonly found on all-mountain snowboards.

Yes. Winter time sees excellent snowfalls for skiing in the Snowy Mountains region of southeastern New South Wales and northeastern Victoria. Central Tasmania also sees good snowfalls. These falls usually only start in June at the earliest - usually July - and continue through August, tapering off in the early months of Spring. Several of Australia's main snow resorts include the Kosciuszko National Park in NSW (Charlotte's Pass, Thredbo, Blue Cow) and Victoria (Mt Bogong, Fall's Creek, Mt Hotham, etc).

Why skier use wax on their skies?

Waxing skis make your skis faster. You also want to have smooth bottoms on your skis. Smooth bottoms of your ski - It is CRITCIAL to avoid skiing over rocks, dirt, or anything that is not ice and snow. This can cause scratches, nicks, and divots in the bottom of your ski. You want the bottoms to be as smooth and scratch free if possible. The smoother they are, the more surface area touches the snow which allows you to ski faster. "Burrs" are what they call nicks on your edges and the bottom of your ski. Waxing your skis - This is usually done the night before a ski race. You melt wax over your skis with and then iron the wax over the skis. Ski wax comes in a variety of colors which are associated with different temperature ranges. The purpose of different wax for different temperatures is because the consistency of the snow changes with the temperature. The day of the race you scrape the wax off your skis. There will be some wax that still remains on the bottom and will quickly wear off. Consult a local ski shop for proper technique.

Waxing also protects your skis. If you don't wax them, the bases can become oxidized.

What is the worlds highest ski resort?

The highest "ski resort" (one old tow-rope lift and a cafe at the base) is in South America's poorest country, Boliva, atop Mt. Chacaltaya. The lift isn't always running, so chances are you'll have to hike it.

And it's high -- more than 17,300 feet. I'm from Colorado and use to skiing some fairly high terrain, but I got an immediate, hard headache when I hiked to the top (not all that impressive, since I started at 11,800 feet in nearby La Paz, Bolivia's capital city). I got down quick.

I only did it for bragging rights :) And for the photo op.

But it's melting. Rapidly. The long-time skiers who operate the lodge told me they once skied atop a 40-foot snow base with snow extending all the way to La Paz, which is visible from the mountain but a hefty drive.

Now, it's mostly rock. The only visible snow was above the lodge... at least when I was there in February, which apparently use to be the middle of the ski season.

Most scientists blame global warming. Science labs (including a NASA-run facility, I was told) dot the side of the narrow dirt road to the mountain's base.

So, certainly not a skiing destination. Though it is a visually powerful example of how fast the globe is warming and what can happen in a very, very short period of time.

Writer: Bolivia is in the southern hemisphere, and you visited in February (summer), so perhaps it's not global warming. Maybe you need a better travel agent for ski vacations, mate. No wonder the lift wasn't working.

What is the price for ski lessons?

As a ski instructor at a large resort it all depends. Did you have fun? Are you safe? What did you learn? Did you ever even consider leaving? Were you eager to hear what they had to say? Believe it or not, most ski instructors make minimum wage and need those tips. Skiing is an expensive sport, even new gloves for the instructor can cost 60+ dollars. That could take about a full 8 hour day to make. Plus they would have to skip lunch. But if you enjoyed the lesson, or if your kid did, than give about 50% of the lesson cost. So even though for you the lesson cost 50 dollars for an hour. The instructor gets about 7 dollars of that. And at a large resort the instructor is only paid when teaching, so they might be there all day and only teach one lesson and make 7$. If you are going to comeback. Request a private lesson with that instructor. It usually has a bonus for the instructor.

When do new skis come out?

You should get new skis when your side wall is shot... When your base is torn up beyond repair... If your skis in in two pieces... If your technology is outdated.
