What is the worlds highest ski resort?
The highest "ski resort" (one old tow-rope lift and a cafe at the base) is in South America's poorest country, Boliva, atop Mt. Chacaltaya. The lift isn't always running, so chances are you'll have to hike it.
And it's high -- more than 17,300 feet. I'm from Colorado and use to skiing some fairly high terrain, but I got an immediate, hard headache when I hiked to the top (not all that impressive, since I started at 11,800 feet in nearby La Paz, Bolivia's capital city). I got down quick.
I only did it for bragging rights :) And for the photo op.
But it's melting. Rapidly. The long-time skiers who operate the lodge told me they once skied atop a 40-foot snow base with snow extending all the way to La Paz, which is visible from the mountain but a hefty drive.
Now, it's mostly rock. The only visible snow was above the lodge... at least when I was there in February, which apparently use to be the middle of the ski season.
Most scientists blame global warming. Science labs (including a NASA-run facility, I was told) dot the side of the narrow dirt road to the mountain's base.
So, certainly not a skiing destination. Though it is a visually powerful example of how fast the globe is warming and what can happen in a very, very short period of time.
Writer: Bolivia is in the southern hemisphere, and you visited in February (summer), so perhaps it's not global warming. Maybe you need a better travel agent for ski vacations, mate. No wonder the lift wasn't working.
1.you need snow pants,jacket,gloves,hat)tuquike,scarf,boots
2.underneath all that you need long sleeved shirt, warm sweater, thermals, thermal socks, sweat pants or comfy pants or jeans but jeans are not very comfy, hair up in a pony tail if you can.

How much does a ski and snowboard technician make?
$8-15 an hour, depending where you work, and how many certifications you have.
What is the price for ski lessons?
As a ski instructor at a large resort it all depends. Did you have fun? Are you safe? What did you learn? Did you ever even consider leaving? Were you eager to hear what they had to say? Believe it or not, most ski instructors make minimum wage and need those tips. Skiing is an expensive sport, even new gloves for the instructor can cost 60+ dollars. That could take about a full 8 hour day to make. Plus they would have to skip lunch. But if you enjoyed the lesson, or if your kid did, than give about 50% of the lesson cost. So even though for you the lesson cost 50 dollars for an hour. The instructor gets about 7 dollars of that. And at a large resort the instructor is only paid when teaching, so they might be there all day and only teach one lesson and make 7$. If you are going to comeback. Request a private lesson with that instructor. It usually has a bonus for the instructor.
You should get new skis when your side wall is shot... When your base is torn up beyond repair... If your skis in in two pieces... If your technology is outdated.

**Optional Items- but strongly recommended
You need goggles, its very difficult to ski without them and you can seriously damage your eyes due to the very bright light.
Can you ski backwards without twin tips?
No you don't. However - when you make the turn make sure that your weight is balanced on the front of the skis, so that the back end of the skis do not dig into the ground. This is only effective if you are on hard packed snow, and might not work if it is soft and powdery snow.
study the best cross country skier and look at what he/her does
There are 2 main methods of stopping on skis. The first method is to snowplow to a stop, you simply put your skis in a wedge to slow you down until you stop. The second method is to do a hockey stop, this one is a little more technical. If you skate it is the same way you hockey stop on skates. If you don't have any clue what I'm talking about, a hockey stop is where you turn to one side very quickly and dig your edges in to stop. If you don't know how to ski, get some lessons and your instructor will teach you the first method first. Then they will teach you the second method, however, you usually don't learn the hockey stop until your second or even third season because it is a lot harder than it sounds and as I said earlier, it is quite technical.
What are the best ski boots for intermediate skiers?
dalbello
That's an opinion. There is no one best boot for advanced skiers, not even ten best.
There are hundreds of excellent boots for advanced skiers but which one you choose really depends on you. How wide are you feet? That greatly affects choice. Do you prefer park and pipe, slalom or just skiing on a run? That greatly affects choice. What is the shape of your foot, how high are your arches, do you have any foot problems such as hammertoes or bunions? These will all affect your choice. Are you actually advanced? Many people over or underestimate their skiing level, you could be intermediate or you could be expert, that will probably change your choice of boot. What I find comfortable might be the most comfortable boot in the world for you or it might be the worst boot you've ever worn. To find the best boot for you, you should go to your local ski shop and have them fit you. Try on some of their suggestions, but make sure you bring your ski socks with you.

What exactly is downhill skiing?
Downhill or Alpine skiing, is a sport in which you ride a chair lift up a mountain and put two planks on your feet. You then slide down on your "skis". There are different kinds of alpine skiing including: freestyle skiing (doing tricks) alpine racing (skiing as fast as you can around gates), and just going out to have fun!
How many people go skiing in the alps each year?
There's no accurate way to know how many people ski/snowboard in the world since there is no way to know who does and who doesn't, for instance, just because someone owns skis doesn't mean they ski, the only way that you could find out is an extremely large scale study and even than many people would not reply to it.

If you catch air in downhill skiing will it slow down or increase your speed?
In skiing you have to deal with the winter weather elements. This includes various snow conditions ranging from brick hard ice to soft, melting snow. The snow also has a way of transforming its shape after you have skied on it. If several skiers ski the same course down the hill then the snow consistency and placement will change. You will build up "ruts". Ruts are grooves that outline where all the skiers have skied. These ruts can become very big. Often times these ruts and quick changes in elevation will produce mini jumps on the ski hill. When you catch air you will definitely slow down your speed. First of all the wind resistance will pull you back. Second of all you lose contact with the snow. You want to have contact with the snow on the flat bottom of your ski as much as possible. Anytime you put your ski edge against the snow to turn or recover you are slowing yourself down. Ski racers have learned to avoid catching air from jumps by bending their knees and holding their center of gravity down when they go over the jump. This helps to minimize your trajectory into the air.
What is a person called when they work at a skiing resort?
I don't know the official name for them, but they are commonly called lifties.
Largest ski area in north america?
For Summit County Colorado my opinion is that:
Breckenridge has lots of everything, including the most beginner terrain. If the bright sunlight, crowds of good looking young people and mellow cruises become boring, you can go to Keystone.
Lots of people go to Keystone looking for blue and green runs... wind your way down the front side literally for miles following easy signs. It's fun and there's lots of middle aged traffic acting hot and rich. If you're or for real enough, try skiing at night, you can see better. That's actually great for beginners because there is less distraction from others and better visibility.
Colorado's Sol Vista would be a good choice too. They also have lights and some friendly turf.
Copper's "Union Creek" has been a dedicated beginner's area since way back, and if you really want to progress you will find plenty of transitional places at Copper.
What two basic types of skiing are practiced on snowy slopes throughtout the world?
There is freestyle, where you do tricks off jumps and rails.
There is slalom, where you race between two sets of poles.
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, where you just go skiing for the fun of it.
Cross country skiing, in which you push yourself forward on mostly flat terrain using your poles and skiis.
Well, there's some!
