for a baby - no such thing For a toddler - should get 12-14 hours per day for kids age 5+ - should get 10-12 hours per day for teenagers - 12 hours is acceptable (their hormones are changing and new studies show they need more sleep than they are getting now) Adults - personal decision, at least 8 hours, but more than 12 makes you groggy and too much sleep can cause depression (from a chemical imbalance).

How do you wake up in the afternoon?

User Avatar

Asked by Raptor101

  • Getting enough sleep at night is very important. Most adults need at least 7 hours, but some need more.
  • Eating a healthy lunch that is high in protein can help keep your energy up. Carbohydrates can cause a crash when the energy burns off.
  • Drinking lots of water and help increase energy throughout the day.
  • A brisk walk after lunch helps give your body a boost.
  • I wouldn't recommend relying on caffeine to keep you awake at any time, especially in the afternoon. Drinking coffee or caffeinated teas in the afternoon can make it harder to get quality sleep at night. Plus, when the caffeine wears off you will feel even more tired. Caffeine can also increase anxiety and some studies have linked it to weight gain, depression, and disrupted sleep patterns.

How can you go to sleep?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Relax and think about happy things. Listen to soft, peaceful music. Get a glass of milk with a half-spoonful of honey (remember to brush your teeth afterwards) or a glass of water before bed.

Don't consume food and other beverages before bed, particularly candy or soda.

Also, don't watch TV or use the computer before bed, which only stimulate the brain. You should avoid them at least 1 hour prior to going to bed.

If you lie in bed and toss and turn and still feel wide awake for a whole hour, you're probably feeling insomniatic. Step outside for a few minutes and sit on a comfy chair. Try not to think of anything; just relax. Breathe in and out, then go back to bed.

Some people use acupressure to enhance sleep, where fingertips are used to preess key points on the body to stimulate natural healing. One pressure point on your arm for helping sleep is 3 finger-widths above your wrist crease between the 2 tendons on your left forearm. Moderately press right the right thumb for 5 minutes, breathing in and out slowly. Repeat on the other arm.

Massage your muscles or ask someone else to massage you, since sleep is all about peace and relaxation. If your muscles are generally tense, it may help to relax them before you sleep.

What could cause a popping sensation in your legs and backside after walking on a treadmill?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

That popping feeling is called Fasciculation. When you work your muscles they contract and the blood vessels dilate. When you are done exercising and your body is returning to a normal state the twitching can occur. It should go away shortly after you finish your workout. This is normal after a good walk or jog..and usually sitting to rest. The feeling results in a "popcorn" feeling at the skins surface.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The podiatrist I just went to, after a failed laser removal at a general doctor, prescribed prescription Tagamet 2x day along with covering the area with topical acid covered with Duct Tape. I thought he was on crack when I left his office, yet it seems to be working so far. This has been quite the ordeal and I will be in heaven if I have finally found a cure.

Are there any other options for sleep apnea other than cpap?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes there are. These options should be discussed with your physician prior to use:

1. There are dental devices which can be molded specifically for the patient as well as after market versions which are already pre-formed. These devices are worn in the mouth at night and push the bottom jaw forward, which hopes to improve airflow by widening the throat.

2. Another option is surgery. This is much more invasive than CPAP therapy, but is an option for when CPAP therapy isn't working or patients refuse to be compliant.

3. There are also some holistic/herbal medications which claim to help improve the conditions which allow apnea to occur.

Insomnia can result in many physical and emotional problems as lack of sleep can result in the disruption of normal bodily function and can cause a person to experience emotional stress and depression.

This condition, however, can be treated with the help of sleeping pills and there are many types of sleeping pills available on the market with zopiclone widely considered to be one of the most effective.
