Slow cookers, also known as Crock-pots, are small or medium electronic cooking appliances used to simmer food at relatively low temperatures over a period of hours. This allows for the unattended cooking of stews, pot roasts, soup and other foods. Slow-cooked food also has certain different flavors compared to convection cooked food.

Toxic no, but any food left out over 4 hours between 41 and 135 degrees F (5 and 57 degrees C) can potentially give you a food born illness.

There's not likely to be a direct correlation with an oven temperature. Most of the things we cook in a crock pot are in hot water, and contain things like cheaper cuts of meat. Assuming this is what you are cooking, I'd use 120 to 140 degrees C (250 to 300 F). It still takes a long time to cook some cuts of meat, depending on your preference. I like to give stewing beef about 3 hours.

Can you cook a frozen ham in a slow cooker?

Yes, but as it must be done with plenty of water the result will basically be a boiled ham. This will remove much of the flavorings you paid for when you bought the ham.

No I don't think it would work because you need to bake them to get the brown crust that forms on top and in a crock pot there is too much moisture so they would turn to mush.

The main pressure relief valve in the center allows steam to escape once the pressure reaches a maximum volume. Should that relief valve be blocked with food particles the rubber safety valve has a slightly higher pressure tolerance and will pop off releasing pressure as a failsafe.

Put the greens in the slow cooker. Add in your water for cooking. Put on the lid and put the temperature on low if you want it to cook all day. Or put on high to cook faster. Add any seasonsings you want.

really I would say no more than 12 hours. I have left chicken legs in a stew longer than this (overnight) and it came out horribly watery, fibrous and tasteless :-(

Following my own experiments I would say that lamb stew will take up to 24 hours, beef around 18 hours ( the fattier the longer) and chicken and pork no longer than 12 hours. But as I say, even lamb and beef will taste better after 12 hours than 24 ;-)
