the 32 LONG CTG STANDS FOR LONG CARTRIDGE IN 32 CAlIBEER. I have one in near new condition and am also looking for a value. I have one also in average condition. If you drop the cylinder you will also find a serial number on the bottom of the pistol. It will probably be the same as on the grip base but be preceeded by a letter "B". Mine was produced in 1913 and is considered a model 1903, change # 5. Serial no. is 178783. There were 160,499 produced up until 1917. Information per S&W historian "Roy G. Jinks". I took it to a gun show and it was estimated to be worth around $300.00. +/- based on condition. Hope this helps.

Only if its registered , that depends on when it was made, when it was sold, who sold it -dealer or private sale- and what state it was sold in. To check your state may have records- usually thru the state police or thru BATF (federal) If if has been sold privately once or more your local police may run it for you If you are looking for manufacturing info contact the manufacturer- or a gun value guide What do you want to check? If you are in a state (or country) that requires registration, a law enforcement official can probably find out who owns it, but an ordinary citizen can't. For some manufacturers and models, it is possible to find the approximate date of production from the serial. But a firearm serial number is not like a car's VIN number with a paper trail of each owner's registration.

In APPENDIX 2 , Serial Number Ranges by Years from pa. 207 tp pg 211 indicates that your answer is correct in that the dates are listed by caliber then Model number or type. Thanks for your web site! Actually, the key to manufacture date on your Remington Nylon 66 is not the serial number, but a stamping on the barrel. There will be two letters, the first being the month, and the second being the year. Here's a quick rundown. B=Jan L=Feb A=Mar C=Apr K=May P=Jun O=Jul W=Aug D=Sep E=Oct R=Nov X=Dec As you will note, this forms the acronym BLACKPOWDERX, which is easy to remember. The year codes are E-1958,F-1959,G-1960,H-1961,J-1962,K-1963,L-1964,M-1965,N-1966,P-1967,R-1968, S-1969,T-1970,U-1971,W-1972,X-1973,Y-1974,Z-1975,O-1977,Q-1978,V-1979,A-1980,B-1981,C-1982,D-1983, E-1984,F-1985,G-1986,H-1987,I-1988,J-1989,K-1990. Note that there are duplicates. Early guns had no serial number. Mid-production guns had no-prefix serial numbers. Later production guns had A-prefix serial numbers. Light or partial stampings can be confusing. View carefully with a magnifier. The two letters are right in front of the rear sight along the barrel on the left side of the barrel. There are over 100 different S&W revolvers, but only a few are 32 caliber with 6 chambers. A complete list of all the markings and where they are found on the gun would help determine which model you have.

'69 is first year for 'N' prefix. Wild guess would be mid 70's. Actually N34XXX was manufactured between 1970 - 1972.

The Chief's Special without the stamping of a model # was pre-1957. In 1957 the serial # started at 125000. There were various changes to the C S double action revolver built on the round butt J frame; 5 shot fluted cylinder. Blue or Nickel finish. 1st model on the J frame, small S & W trademark on the left side, later slightly enlarged. First productions were 5 screw models w/ smooth backstrap and shorter butt length. Most of that had changed by 1952. About 1,740 were produced w/ target sights. Serials range from 1-786544 numbered in the original C S series with weight at 19 oz. and 2" barrel.

S&W never manufactured these guns. They were produced in Japan under license from S&W for a short period of time. They are not known for being high quality and they have no collector value. I have seen one priced at $175 sit for a very very long time.

Depending on condition they sell fairly quickly when priced between $125-150.

The answer above is somewhat correct. Howa of Japan built these shotguns for S&W and they eventually were built for Mossberg. The value would depend on a multi choke

barrel or fixed choke model. A center bead on your barrel and if you had a standard or

magnum reciever. Howa is still in business selling rifles. There claim to fame was and is copying the more popular Remington firearms. They made a 1000 semi auto, a 3000

pump shotgun (copied the 1100, and the 870 respectively) with a few changes.

They currently produce the howa 1500, a copy of the Remington 700 rifle.

They usually run around the $500 range, depending on the condition.....Tom Fuller, Castle Rock, Wa. -- Never Chrome Plated -- The S&W "Safety Hammerless" which is commonly referred to as the Lemon Squeezer was never originally chrome plated. Nickel, yes, but never chrome. If yours is in fact chrome plated it will be worth about $150 tops. These guns are rarely found in the excellent condition required to bring $500. I would estimate it was made post WWII. The Sn range for 1943-1947 is 269000-50001. What it's worth depends on if it left the factory the way you describe it. I suggest you get it lettered by Colt. Go to their website for information on how to do this and price. You don't describe it in terms of Good, Very Good, Fine, Excellent or 90 95 percent, etc. Without that, there is no way to give a good estimate of worth, If it letters as factory nickel, ivory grips and engraving, you are looking at a price range of a thousand or so to multiple thousands, depedning on condition, accessories, box, manual. If it is not factory, and was done during the period, you could still be in the high hundreds to a few thousand or so. Again, it will depend on condition, etc.. If it was done say in the last 20-30 years, it will all depend on the condition of the plating, how good a job was done, who did the engraving, who did the ivory, etc.. In that case you would be in the couple of hundred to maybe a thousand or so price range.
