How many legs do arthropods have?

It varies. Typically insects (which are arthropods) have 6, although it can vary depending on species. Because the name "arthropod" refers to any organisms with exoskeletons, there is no exact number of legs that an arthropod may possess. Insects in general possess 6 limbs, while arachnids such as spiders have 8. Crustaceans like lobsters or crabs may support 10 or more. Still, some species in the subphylum myriapoda such as millipedes or centipedes may contain at least 9 pairs of legs. The leggiest specie of arthropod, Illacme plenipes, which is a Californian millipede, has been recorded for having 750 legs.

What do you after the black widow bites you?

Black widow spider venom affects the nervous system. Because the bite itself is relatively mild, some people may not even realize immediately that they were bitten. The venom causes pain in the lymph nodes. Other symptoms of a severe bite include dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, elevated blood pressure, sweating, tremors, breathing difficulty and increased white blood cell counts. The wound may appear as a bluish red spot, surrounded by a whitish area. Both male and female spiders bite, but adult females produce the most severe bites. A physician should be contacted immediately following a suspected bite. An antivenin serum is available through a physician, but it must be administered soon as possible after the bite occurs. When this happens, fatalities are rare and recovery is usually quick and complete. --------------------- Long story short: The venom attacks your nerves, which could lead to becoming comatose, seizure, & paralysis.

Why do spiders not need a backbone?

Spiders do not have a backbone because they belong to a group of animals called arachnids, which have an exoskeleton instead of an internal skeleton. This exoskeleton provides support and protection for their bodies. Spiders are able to move and function effectively without a backbone due to this exoskeleton.

What is a spider's exoskeleton made of?

The exoskeleton is made of several layers of cuticle, a composite material containing various proteins and chitin, a long-chain polysaccharide (sugar). The chitin and protein molecules are arranged in long chains, in successive layers, like the grain in plywood. This structure makes cuticle extremely strong, as well as highly effective at keeping the spider from drying out, but the material does have one serious drawback. While it's flexible enough for movement, it can't expand like human bones and tissue -- in other words, it can't grow. In order to increase its size, the spider has to form a new, larger cuticle exoskeleton and shed its old one (this is called molting). Molting occurs frequently when a spider is young, and some spiders may continue to molt throughout their life. At the appropriate time, hormones tell the spider's body to absorb some of the lower cuticle layer in the exoskeleton and begin secreting cuticle material to form the new exoskeleton. The new exoskeleton is typically folded to some extent, so it can expand once the spider sheds the older one. The spider also secretes a molting fluid between the old exoskeleton and the new one. Once the new exoskeleton is finished, the spider absorbs the molting fluid. This creates a gap between the two exoskeletons, which makes it easier to separate them.

Help me Identify a spider please?

The spider in question has got me baffled. I've looked on google for hours and no answers for me. Hes a light brown spider. I found him in my utility room on the wall. I live in tallahassee, Fl. His legs are all pretty close to the same length. All four on both side point to either to the side or to the front. He doesnt have legs that extended behind his abdomen when walking or resting. His legs have black dots that go down them. They kinda look like stripes except they are only on the top half of his leg not underneath. He has two small legs in the front that are overtop his fangs. Hes slightly larger than a quarter. His head is darker than his body, its a dark brown with a white stripe or border where his head meats the abdomen. On his abdomen he has a particualr marking. On the the upperhalf of the topside of his abdomen he has what looks kinda like a sword pointing down? Its two little black dots at the point where head and abdomen meet with a line that stretches down about half way it his 'butt'. The after that line ends there are two larger black dots one on the left side and on one the right side of the lower half of his abdomen. On his belly there is a marking that looks similar to a rough pencil sketch of a vagina. Along with two white dots at the very top of his belly. I thought maybe a wolf spider but I dont think so, Hobo, Huntsman, Brown Recluse...they all kinda look like it but not enough to make me a believer. I need help please.

What is the worlds top 10 deadliest spiders?

Answer

1. Brazillian Wandering Spider(banana spider)(known for wandering the forest floor often into clothing and shoes. Also know to be shipped in with bannas as stowaways, hence the name Banana spider)

2.Widow spiders(which may refer to black, brown or Red Widows, all are equally venomous, but each looks slightly more unique than the others)

3. Brown Recluse(though this bite can be treated, I have personally dealt with one, ouch! it is quick to react with a painful bite, and a nasty venom that causes necrosis)

4. The funnel web spider( havent had the pleasure of owning one yet, but have heard that they are a treat)

True tarantulas have a venom that is COMPLETELY harmless to a normal human being. The bite can be painful but nothing more than being stabbed by a pencil. The only way it could harm you is if you have an allergic react to bee stings, then it may be harmful

Spiders do not have hairs, they have bristles.
