However, Gliders - small marsupials in the possum family - can glide between treetops. Varieties include the Sugar Glider, Feathertail Glider, Greater Glider, Squirrel Glider, Pygmy Glider and Yellow bellied Glider. As they launch, their forelimbs and hind limbs splay out, exposing gliding membranes which extend from the equivalent of their wrists to the knees, and allow them to glide between treetops and poles. Most species can glide up to 90 metres, while the squirrel glider has been recorded at 100m.

What animals live in the forest with sugar gliders?
Given that sugar gliders live in both bushland (dry sclerophyll woodland) and rainforest, there are many animals which may live in the same biome. They can include various other possums and gliders, koalas (eucalyptus bushland), quolls, short-beaked echidnas, wallabies and bandicoots.
How long do sugar gliders live if healthy?
In their native Australian habitat, if they can stay safe from predators and survive possible habitat loss, sugar gliders have a life expectancy of 10-12 years. Due to predation and other factors, the average is 4-6 years. This is because they are subject to predation by foxes, feral cats, quolls and owls. However, many sugar gliders will safely live out the full term of their natural life.
The potential lifespan for a sugar glider in captivity is 12-15 years. For the captive sugar glider, the most common causes of death seems to be household accidents. This includes things like drowning in the toilet, attacks by other pets, and so on. Another leading cause of death is poor diet, which causes many health problems. Many people that keep sugar gliders as pets, unfortunately, do not take the time to study their diet (which is very complex).
Sugar gliders tend to live for around seven or eight years.
What does it mean if your sugar gliders belly fur has turned yellow?
You are feeding your sugar glider the wrong diet. These are delicate animals which should not be kept in captivity, and they suffer easily from stress, requiring a specialised diet not only for nutrition, but to help them cope with the stresses of being kept in a confined space.

What on earth did your glider get into????
It is not recommended that a glider gets bathed, since they are not the greatest swimmers ever.... Not to mention, the horrible sicknesses that can and WILL occur if any water is inhaled or soap ingested. They also get Hypothermia very fast.
If you glider gets super smelly, it is one of these:
Time to clean the cage and toys
Change the diet to a vet recommended diet
Glider is sick
If your glider's fur is uber smelly, get a box of huggies baby wipes and let the glider shimmy it's way through. Do that a few times a week until the glider is no longer smelly. Just remember that the glider needs to be warm after doing so. Let it hang out in your shirt to dry. :)

Sugar Gliders eat sap from acacias and eucalypts as well as insects, which means they are classed as omnivores.
Yes. They can eat a wide variety of stuff including: fruits, vegetables, protein, and breads and cereals. Their diet should consist of 20% - 30% fruits (some sources say only 5%), 40% vegetables (they tend not to like bananas and citrus fruits can cause diarrhea, canned fruits have too much sugar, frozen vegetables are ok), 25% to 50% protein (such as monkey chow, tofu, cooked turkey or chicken, hardboiled eggs, baby chicks or mice, and insects), and 15% breads and cereals (not too sugary or high in fat). Gliders are high-energy creatures and need lots of carbohydrates which breads and cereals can provide. You can occasionally give them them small pieces of wheat bread, shredded wheat squares (the kind with the raisin in the middle) or other HEALTHY cereals. Try experimenting with new foods, and make sure to rotate favorites to keep gliders from losing interest.
