Thailand won one gold medal at the 2000 Games in Sydney. It was won by Wijan Ponlid in men's flyweight boxing. Thailand also won two bronze medals at the 2000 Games. They were won by Pornchai Thongburan in men's middleweight boxing and Khassaraporn Suta in women's 58 kilogram weightlifting.

Until 1992, the summer and winter Olympics were held in the same year, but the decision was made to move the winter Olympics off to the other even-numbered years, beginning with the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway.
