The Olympics are held every 4 years. The Winter Olympics and the Summer Olympics are separted by two years, but, it's every 4 years. The next Winter Olympics will be in 2014, and 2018. The next Summer Olympics (after 2012) will be in 2016 and 2020.
It would depend on the size of the medals, naturally, since a huge silver one would be more valuable than a small gold one. But assuming equal value, gold is worth more. The market for gold is always overinflated because everyone values it high.
The next Winter Olympics will be in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 2010.
