Why does immunity decrease during teething?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The baby is born with antibodies from the mother. These gradually decline while it takes time for the baby to start t make his or her own. As a result in non-breast fed infants the nadir of antibodies is at about 6 months (breast feeding continues to provide immune assistance).

Teeth is not related to the immune system. It just happens to usually also occur at about 6 months, although this can vary markedly.

What does the word teething mean?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The process of teething is when an infant's first teeth begin to erupt through the gum tissue. This is often uncomfortable or painful, and may even be accompanied by mild inflammation. Teething rings are designed for babies to chew on to expedite the eruption, and some are designed to hold a chilled water solution which cools the inflamed gums.
