Lullaby - Dixie Chicks song - was created in 2006.
In response to the Invasion of Iraq, March 2003, The Dixie Chicks (Natalie) in the middle of a concert in England made some anti-Bush comments. Like "They were embarrased and ashamed that Bush was from Texas" and made some remarks about the U.S always wanting to go to war.........................But it was a major thing because people in England were bashing the United States and Bush and it seemed like the Dixie Chicks jumped on and supported that bandwagon. Fans felt betrayed. Correction: some fans felt betrayed. Many more agreed with the statements. After that, there was an attempt to blacklist the Dixie Chicks. Some Country radio stations boycotted their music. The Dixie Chicks stood their ground, and went on with their careers. At the 2007 Grammy Awards they sang a song titled "Not Ready To Make Nice", in defiance of the attempts to pressure them to apologize. Now it's 2009. The Dixie Chicks are still around, still singing. Score one for Freedom of Speech. "I apologized for disrespecting the office of the President," says Maines. "But I don't feel that way anymore. I don't feel he is owed any respect whatsoever." -- Time, 5/21/06" Haha, Natalie is pretty damn brave to stand her ground like that. A very admirable woman.

This song is about a person struggling to cope with alzheimer's and other memory-loss related illnesses. I get the feeling that this woman is not dead, just moved to a nursing home.
It is terrible because now the voice or persona of the song is trying to come to terms with the loss of a woman who cannot remember the little things, those small details, that made her her. "Everything that you made by hand, everything that you know by heart" is gone. Even the fact that "in the closet hangs your favourite dress" is an indicator that this beloved woman has lost so much of her memory: if it was her favourite dress wouldn't she have taken it to the nursing home that she was going to?
Now the persona is left to "try to connect the pieces you left."
With this song I feel a real sense of sadness because I can relate to the persona. You revisit their house and you keep expecting to see the person pop out from around the corner and offer you a cuppa. But instead you see "the books that you read laying in piles of paper shreds" and it's almost as if the person died because they're just gone.
Sometimes it's worse than if the person had died because they can't even remember who you are anymore, and everything that you shared together is gone.
yes but just until Natalie wants to come back to the music biz.
and right now the name of the band is "court yard hounds"

I think you have the wrong band. "The Wreckers" have a song titled Leave the Pieces. They sound similar to the Dixie Chicks. The lyrics are as follows:
You're not sure that you love me
But you're not sure enough to let me go
Baby it ain't fair you know
To just keep me hangin' 'round
You say you don't wanna hurt me
Don't wanna to see my tears
So why are you still standing here
Just watching me drown
[Chorus]
And it's alright, yeah I'll be fine
Don't worry 'bout this heart of mine
Just take your love and hit the road
There's nothing you can do or say
You're gonna break my heart anyway
So just leave the pieces when you go
Now you can drag out the heartache
Baby you can make it quick
Really get it over with
And just let me move on
Don't concern yourself
With this mess you've left for me
I can clean it up, you see
Just as long as you're gone
[Chorus]
You not making up your mind
Is killing me and wasting time
I need so much more than that
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
[Chorus]
Leave the pieces when you go
Oh yeah
Leave the pieces when you go
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Leave the pieces when you go
I don't think she quit I just think she is going on a break or strike.

Lead singer Natalie Maines made a few off the cuff remarks about George W. Bush while he was president, during a concert in Europe. This upset Americans that someone would disparage the sitting president to foreigners, even though most Americans tended to agree that as president, Bush was a disaster.
