The Great Sphinx

The standard approach is to say that they represent fantastically imaginative gods in the Egyptian pantheon and nothing more than that. Possibly the general characteristics of some animals were associated with gods having similar characteristics. A growing number of researchers and enthusiasts insist that they represent actual animal/human hybrids created by extraterrestrial beings. As far as I am aware there have never been found any skeletal remains of such creatures, but that alone doesn't preclude the possibility that they existed.

Firstly, the Great Sphinx is important because it was built to guard the three pyramids of Giza and to worship gods. Secondly, it shows that even in ancient times people were capable of building great monuments as big as the Great Sphinx with such simple tools. Lastly, it was a part of history, an artifact, and people would want to savor that piece of history. Wouldn't you?

Scientists are trying to restore it, but they are causing more harm than good. What they are trying to do to save it are filling in the holes, supporting the head with cement, and they are also building a high protecting for a purpose to serve as a sand break. The Great Sphinx has been repetitively being repaired and patched over time for over 3,000. Workers are also using over 100,000 stones to restore the Sphinx's paws. However, the Nile River continues to wreak disaster on this statue.

What is under a pyramid in Ancient Egypt is the dead person that has been mummified. The dead person maybe a pharoah. As well as the dead person buried under a pyramid, the dead person's treasures and valubles are there too and all the other usful things it might need while in the afterlife.

The stele that is between the paws of the Great Sphinx records a dream Tuthmosis IV had when he was a prince. He dreamt that he stopped to rest in the shadow of the Sphinx during a hunting expedition in the desert. While asleep, the Sphinx spoke to him, saying that he would become king if he cleared away the sand that all but buried the Sphinx. When he became king, Tuthmosis IV cleared the sand and erected a stele that tells the story of his dream. After the work was completed, a chapel was built next to the Sphinx to venerate this sun god.

The well-known American patriot, John Hanson,was not of African ancestry. There was a politician in Liberia named John Hanson who was, of course, an African and he may have been an American at one time.

The Egyptian Arab historian al-Maqrīzī, writing in the fifteenth century CE, attributes the loss to iconoclasm by Muhammad Sa'im al-Dahr, a Sufi Muslim fanatic from the khanqah of Sa'id al-Su'ada. In 1378 CE, upon finding the Egyptian peasants making offerings to the Sphinx in the hope of increasing their harvest, Sa'im al-Dahr was so outraged that he destroyed the nose, and was hanged for vandalism.

The Sphinx at Giza was carved in place from the native limestone, which varies from a resistant (but brittle) gray to a softer yellow. Sections were added or repaired with limestone of the type used in the nearby pyramids.

In Egypt the Great Sphinx had the body of a lion and the head of a man. However, there is also an Avenue of Sphinxes at Karnak with ram heads instead of human heads.

The Greek Sphinx had the head and breasts of a woman, the body of a lion, wings of an eagle and a serpent for a tale. It was also depicted in as sitting upright rather than recumbent.

Sphinxes can represent anything from a great ruler to a powerful god.
