Who performed at the kaltzberg festival in sound of music movie?
I got the impression it was something of a contest with a variety of competing acts. I seem to recall ( and this is historically inaccurate) the Bil Baird ( he always spelled it that way) Puppets were featured in some aspect of the Movie version of Sound of Music. The Bil Baird puppets were featured in the Chrysler Motors free exhibit at the New York World"s Fair entitled the Show-Go-Round. a forgettable piece of drivel, I still recall the silly opening jingle Show-Go-Round on the the Show-Go-Round- a rotating stage, natch.
Why was the sound of music in the top 100 movies?
Because it's an absolutely amazing movie. (That's my personal opinion anyways) The music by Rogers and Hammerstein is distinct to the Sound of Music. The cast was chosen very well all around and the chemistry between Maria (Julie Andrews) and the Captain (Christopher Plummer) has rarely been matched in any other movie. The story appeals to a large variety of people. It's child friendly and connects with many people because it is about a father connecting with his children but also romantic because it is about the Captain and Maria falling in love. There's also the constant threat of the Nazis which adds a darker undertone to the film. The morals that this film portrays are numerous. I would say the most noticeable is that onemust always follow their heart as Maria does, and it also shows that class doesn't matter when it comes to love. Maria is practically an orphan postulant and Georg von Trapp is a Baron and a captain. This movie shows that you should always stand up for what you believe in as the Captain does against the Third Reich. I think one of the reasons the Sound of Music is so powerful a movie is because so many people feel that they can connect with it personally. Sound of Music, The (1959), a musical play by Howard lindsay-and-crouse, Russel Crouse (book), Richard richard-rodgers(the-sound-of-music), Oscar hammerstein-oscar(lyrics). [ lunt-fontanne-theatre, 1,443 perf.; Tony Award.] When the lively Maria (Mary mary-martin), a postulant at an Austrian convent, seems an unlikely candidate for her religious order, the Mother Abbess (Patricia Neway) arranges for her to serve as governess to the seven children of the stern, widowed naval officer Captain Georg von Trapp (Theodore theodore-bikel). Maria wins the children's love immediately and inadvertently falls for the Captain himself. He is opposed to the Nazis, so when they order him to report for duty, the whole family flees to the safety of the West. Notable songs: The Sound of Music; My Favorite Things; Edelweiss; Do‐Re‐Mi; Climb Ev'ry Mountain; The Lonely Goatherd; Sixteen Going on Seventeen. Written shortly before Hammerstein's death and thus this great partnership's last work, the musical, which was based on Maria von Trapp's autobiography The Trapp Family Singers, was condemned by such staunch detractors of operetta as Brooks atkinson-brooks. The public, however, adored it. A 1965 film version broke records, helping the show to remain a favorite in theatres across the country. A 1998 Broadway revival was well received by audiences and the critics.
