The Mormons were family communities whose primary aim was cooperation and religious freedom. They planned to stay there permanently. Isolation was beneficial because it allowed them the ability to practice their religion in peace, away from the persecution they had experienced in the east and midwest. Because of this they were able to establish themselves and create a strong community organization and home-base headquarters that has stayed in place for over 150 years.
The West Wing was built for Theodore Roosevelt. It was doubled in size for William Howard Taft.
