Explain how the Mormon settlers in Utah were different than most other settlers and why isolation was beneficial to their religious way of life.?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Most other settlements in the west were mining towns, with most of the residents being single men and their primary aim being getting wealth. Most planned on being there only temporarily. The Mormons were family communities whose primary aim was cooperation and religious freedom. They planned to stay there permanently. Isolation was beneficial because it allowed them the ability to practice their religion in peace, away from the persecution they had experienced in the east and midwest. Because of this they were able to establish themselves and create a strong community organization and home-base headquarters that has stayed in place for over 150 years.
