It is not at all unusual for two or more people to be working on the same problem at the same time, and coming up with similar ideas almost simultaneously, without any contact between the two. This is the case with these two men and a practical, economically useful, incandescent bulb.

Joseph Swan made an incandescent light bulb before Edison did so, but Edison's team came up with their ideas without any help from Swan's work. Swan thus had the patent in Great Britain; Edision in the USA. Rather than fight out who held the patents around the world, the two simply agree to join their patents as one.

Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 and was from the country of the United States. He was born in Milan, Ohio and was a very successful inventor and businessman. Edison died in New Jersey on October 18, 1931 at age 84.

Edison began inventing at 12 years old while he was a railroad newsboy. He was the first person to print a newspaper on a train. He lived in a time where a self made man could work, invent, and create on his own.

First, understand that Edison was a "self publicist" and may of the things which he is attributed to have invented were in fact invented before him. For instance he did not actually invent the "light bulb", this was invented in 1800 by Humphry Davy.

When you look closely many of Edison's "inventions" should not be attributed to him in the manner that they currently are.

Thomas Edison is remembered as one of the best inventors of all time. He held patents on over 1,000 ideas for inventions.

Thomas Edison had many assistants. Many of these poor men actually invented the items he later patented. This was a fairly common practice at the time. The idea that Edison estenially owned these employees and therefore the patents tells us a great deal of the time.

Some of Thomas's creations were Kinetoscope, which shows motion pictures. Another invention is the Edison bulb, the first practical light bulb. Also the phonograph, the movie camera and the movie projector .He also made improvements to the telegraph.

The telephone, however, is a form of communication that has been improved many times over the decades and is a great way to communicate ideas, emotions, and many other things between people.

Thomas Edison often referred to himself deaf, but that isn't exactly true. He was very hard of hearing though. Edison told a story of being picked up by his ears to keep from falling off of a train, saying at the time he heard something "pop" inside his ears. However, experts seemed to think it was a type of hereditary hearing loss, as both his father and his brother had similar conditions.

Lewis Latimer invented it, and he wrote a book with Thomas Edison.

Thomas Edison was a very generous and philanthropic man. After he perfected the light bulb he toured the United States displaying his invention. While in the West he stopped at an Indian reservation and was appalled at the deplorable conditions. Being the very generous and philanthropic man that he was, he decided to do something to alleviate the plight of the Indians.

And in a moment of PR genius he decided to install his new invention in all the Indian's outhouses. From that day on, Thomas Edison was also known as:

The first man to wire a head for a reservation.

He invented the light bulb but not light, typewriter, motion picture camera, record player and 1,000 more inventions x
