You sure can be a jockey but you have to really want to do it and be dedicated. Many jockeys spend years with the horses to really develope skills and techniques that make them good at what they do. One of the most important things for a jockey to be successful in the sport is by practice and knowledge. Of course knowledge is a pretty basic thing for just about anything, but most jockeys dont take the time to really examine the nature of the horse and abilities, they just ride. If you really want to be a jockey, and a good one for the matter, i would advice set a goal and reach it at whatever cost. Learn from other jockeys, study every chance you get.This will truly put you above others if you really put the time and effort to it. Practice, practice, practice!! Remember, practice makes perfect. If you're bearly starting, just try to find someone with horses that is willing to give you some pointers on how to ride. Get involved! If you really want it, then you got to GO FOR IT! European horses can enter the Kentucky Derby.

Most North American tracks are about one mile and a half. Some are one mile, others a mile and a quarter. The most I've seen is a mile and a half (minus the shoot). Or maybe a mile and three quarters.

Breath training is important. A regular distance and speed intense workout with little rest between sets is key. Also, looking at the event as a sprint/semi-sprint race will help prevent too slow of a pace.

The 2010 Kentucky Derby was run over a sloppy track. However, at race time it stopped raining and the sun actually came out. Super Saver won that race. The 2009 Kentucky Derby was run over a sloppy track and was won by Mine That Bird. The winning jockey both times was Calvin Borel.

For Derby #135 (May 2, 2009) the owner gets the money, but will be contractually to pay the trainer and jockey a certain fee (usually between 10% or 15% of the purse.) From the courier journal:

The Preakness is held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The track is a 1-mile dirt oval. The race itself is a mile and 3/16.

the New York Handicap Triple or American Graded Stakes Races for thoroughbred racehorses is run by the New York Racing Association at Belmont Park in Elmont New York. these three races consist ot the Metropolitan Handicap, the Brooklyn Handicap and the Suburban Handicap. the four horses that have won the Handicap Triple Crown are Whisk Broom 2 in 1913, Tom Fool in 1953, Kelso in 1961 and Fit to Fight in 1984.

He did not. The first race in the Triple Crown is the Kentucky Derby. The Derby is restricted to three year olds. Seabiscuit was a late bloomer, when he was three he was lame and cranky due to overwork and excessive training. To compete at that level he would have had to be winning consistantly against some very tough competition.
