The Titanic is (and was) a very interesting ship in it's modern day. lol while I was answering someone beat me to it... oh well here is my answer too... hope it helps..

The sinking of the Titanic was a tragic and very large scale loss of life. Many people died simply because they were thought to be a lower class... they were locked behind bars that prevented them from getting out of the ship while the 1st class was already being loaded into boats that were not full--- more people could have been saved if the boats would have been filled.. Even some wealthy men got into boats before the women and children of the "lower class" were allowed to start boarding. It showed a very ugly side to people.

She could hear someone on a nearby rescue boat shouting, so she swam (to a dead body) and blew a whistle. The rescue boat heard her and saved her.
