Do tomatoes contain fructose?

I have reason to believe there is fructose in tomatoes. But a very small amount. Someone mentions it here: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Irritable-Bowel-Syndrome-IBS/Fructose-foods/show/1000109 that a cup of chopped tomatoes would have 2.5 grams of fructose, although I'm not sure of where they came up with this information.

I have been trying to answer this same question because my son is ultra sensitive to fructose. I have noticed he does have some sensitivity to tomatoes, but it's not as bad as apples of course!

Why is it impossible to grow tomatoes in a rocket?

no soil, no moisture, no fresh air, no oxygen nor carbon dioxide, no roots,

Answer:

Tomatoes can be grown in hydroponic tanks on Earth, and by extension, on a large spacecraft or orbiting station. As they are self fertilizing they do not need insects or human assistance in transferring pollen to the flowers.

The version of hydroponics that NASA has determined to be most suitable for use in space is aeroponics is a system where roots are continuously or discontinuously kept in an environment saturated with fine drops (a mist or aerosol) of nutrient solution. This method requires no substitute soil. The plants grow with their roots suspended in a deep air or growth chamber with the roots periodically wetted with a fine mist of atomized nutrients. Excellent aeration is the main advantage of aeroponics.

Is it OK to plant a new tomato plant in the same spotas the old one?

Yes but if you are worried about root nematodes, double dig your hole with a lot of composted manure. You may end up replacing the top 12" of your garden soil around the tomato hole. You might try rototilling. Compost the old soil to kill nematodes. I haven't yet had a nematode problem and grow tomatoes in the same spots every year. The amending of soil has the added bonus of putting a lot of living organisms back in the soil that create a healthy and beneficial root as well as replenish nutrients. Tomatoes are heavy feeders. Oh, and I add a source of calcium and phosphorous when I amend soil for most veggies. Good luck!
